QUOTES OF THE WEEK
“Motherhood is the biggest gamble in the world, It is the glorious life force. It is huge and scary - it’s an act of infinite optimism.” - Gilda Radner (learning risks, growth mindset, grit)
“My mother never gave up on me. I messed up so much at school they were sending me home, but my mother sent me right back.” - Denzel Washington (growth mindset and high expectations)
“For a mother is the only person who can divide her love by 10 children, and each child still has all her love.” - unknown (differentiation and universally designed learning)
“You have to have faith that seems to be selfish and only concerned about the word ‘mine’ sometimes; overall they are watching you very carefully, and if you care about other people, they will too.” - Jennifer Garner (modeling, social emotional learning)
“A mother’s love is the fuel that enables a normal human being to do the impossible.” - Marion Garretty (growth mindset and high expectations)
“Acceptance, tolerance, bravery, compassion. These are the things my mom taught me.” - Lady Gaga (SEL)
“A mother understands what a child does not say.” - Jewish Proverb (social emotional learning, culturally responsive)
“Our mothers are our first teachers, and we teach others the same lessons we learn from them. As a child, when your mother believes in you, you believe in yourself, and when that happens, there is nothing you can’t do. As a mother, that is the greatest gift we can give to a child.” – Caroline Kennedy (high expectations, grit, growth mindset)
A Note from the Principal . . . .
In case you had any doubt about the influence of mothers and their role as a child’s first teacher…… I share with you these many inspirational quotes. Mothers have taught using interactive modeling, growth mindset, high expectations, differentiation, universal design learning, collaborative problem solving, social emotional learning, high expectations, and culturally responsiveness from the beginning of humanity, long before there was even something called a school, shaping our future world with their words, actions, and love.
Wishing the many mothers and mother figures in the Day Community a very Happy Mother’s Day, and extending my deepest gratitude to all of you for your endless inspiration and daily sacrifice for the children in your care.
