A Message from Principal Buchko
Dear MacArthur Families,
This week was a very fun, but busy week. We had Parent/Teacher conferences, Grandparents' Day and Trunk or Treat. Thank you to all our parents who met with their child’s teacher (s) to discuss how together the school and the home can help our students achieve their fullest potential. They say it takes a village to raise a child and that is definitely a very true statement, so thank you for your partnership.
It was so great to be able to have Grandparent’s Day. It seemed like all our grandparents really enjoyed visiting their grandchild’s classroom and our school. As you can see from the pictures our team really had some amazing activities for our grandparents to participate in; dancing in the gym, pictures in the cafeteria, Book Fair in the library, learning about STEM in the STEM classroom, visiting the art room, and of course meeting their grandchild’s teacher and having their grandchild show off everything in their classroom. A BIG thank you to everyone who donated snacks for the grandparents and students.
A big thank you to our PTO and MacArthur Staff for sponsoring Trunk or Treat tonight. I think it is safe to say that it will be a really fun evening for the kids and there will be some pretty amazing, decorated vehicles. Thank you to everyone who donated candy for our Trunk or Treat.
Have a Fantastic Weekend.
Marian Buchko

Parent Safety Presentation
The 3rd week of October is National School Safety Week.
CPCSC is hosting a presentation about school safety for parents and caregivers later this month. This 90-minute session will cover the district's steps to prevent and respond to safety issues, and how parents can help support our schools to be safe environments for students.
Students in grades 6+ are welcome to attend with their parents, but we ask that you consider whether the content and length of the presentation would be best for your elementary children.
- Wednesday, October 30th from 6-7:30 pm at Col. Wheeler Middle School
To help our team prepare for this event, please sign up to attend the presentation.

Parents/Guardians,
Next week, October 28- November 1st is Red Ribbon Week. Your child should have brought home the Red Ribbon Week flyer today, with details on what they should wear each day of the week! I encourage you to talk to your children about making healthy and positive choices, and refraining from using drugs or alcohol. The National Red Ribbon Campaign began in 1988 and has been helping kids and adults ever since. This is how it all began:
Enrique Camarena was a Drug Enforcement Administration Agent who was tortured and killed in Mexico in 1985. When he decided to join the US Drug Enforcement Administration, his mother tried to talk him out of it. "I'm only one person", he told her, "but I want to make a difference." On Feb. 7, 1985, the 37-year-old Camarena left his office to meet his wife for lunch. Five men appeared at the agent's side and shoved him in a car. In honor of Camarena's memory and his battle against illegal drugs, friends and neighbors began to wear red badges. Parents, sick of the destruction of alcohol and other drugs, had begun forming coalitions and took Camarena as their model and embraced his belief that one person can make a difference. These coalitions also adopted the symbol of Camarena's memory, the red ribbon. In 1988, NFP sponsored the first National Red Ribbon Celebration. Today, the Red Ribbon serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities.
