The Fray Family Charitable Trust Scholarship (added 2/6/25) DEADLINE: March 13, 2025
The Fray Family Charitable Trust Scholarship This scholarship was established to provide financial assistance for up to two (2) students from each Campbell County High School who plans to further his/her education (i.e. technical school, community college, four-year college). Funding for the scholarship is provided by The Fray Family Charitable Trust. Paper copies of the application are available in the school counseling office. All applications and supporting documents must be returned to the WCCS Counseling Office no later than March 13th. Deadline: March 13th to the counseling office. 2025 Award: $5,000 Criteria: Minimum 2.0 GPA, financial need (must provide one of the following: FAFSA Report, most recent Family IRS 1040 Form or Direct Certification Approval for Benefits – free/reduced lunch verification letter), community involvement, three (3) letters of recommendation.
James River Equipment Scholarship Program (added 2/7/25) DEADLINE: March 3, 2025
Planting Paths to Harvest Success: James River Equipment Scholarship Program. James River Equipment believes investing in our communities will sustain those communities for years to come. James River Equipment invites graduating high school seniors in VA to apply for one of 5 scholarship opportunities to be awarded in May 2025:
3- $3,000 Scholarships awarded to students pursuing a career in heavy equipment/diesel technology
2- $2,000 Scholarships awarded to students pursuing a career in agricultural/life sciences, agribusiness, leadership, sales, or marketing.
Scholarships will be awarded to the individual and can be used toward tuition, fees, books and travel/housing. Internships within James River Equipment will also be available to scholarship recipients. Deadline: March 3, 2025 Award: $2,000-$3,000. You may find the application on this link.
Providence Baptist Church/Charles and Joan Foster Scholarship (added 2/6/25) DEADLINE: April 1, 2025
Providence Baptist Church/Charles and Joan Foster Scholarship Providence Baptist Church sponsors scholarships to help Christian students seeking financial assistance in obtaining a post secondary education.
Applicant criteria includes:
-be a publicly professing Christian and an active* member of a church.
-be pursuing any level of post high school education
-be or have been a resident, student, or church member in Charlotte, Campbell or Appomattox counties
-be willing to attend an interview, if requested by the scholarship committee
-be in good academic standing

Colonel Charles E. Savedge Scholarsip (added 2/6/24) DEADLINE: March 1, 2025
Colonel Charles E. Savedge Award – This scholarship award is given to one (1) college-bound senior who has participated and excelled in school publications (magazine, newsmagazine, newspaper, and yearbook) and for at least two years has demonstrated outstanding personal qualities such as leadership, writing, proficiency, design aptitude, creativity, teamwork, and character. Students can find the application on School Links or pick up a copy from the counseling office. Deadline: March 1, 2025 Award: $500
VHSL Achievement Award Scholarship (added 2/6/25) DEADLINE: March 15, 2025
VHSL Achievement Award – This scholarship awards nineteen (19) scholarships recognizing one male scholar-athlete, one female scholar-athlete, and one scholar-academic activities participant in each VHSL classification. Plus, one student from any classification overcoming incredible odds to make significant contributions to athletic or academic activities. Only students graduating during the school year are eligible for the awards. Students can find the application on School Links or pick up a copy from the counseling office.

The Lynchburg Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma (added 2/6/25) DEADLINE: April 21, 2025
The Lynchburg Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma is offering a scholarship to a senior girl who is planning on entering college with the goal of working in education. An essay and two (2) letters of recommendation are required. Applications can be picked up in the Counseling Office and must be returned to Mrs. Faulconer no later than April 21, 2025. Deadline: April 21, 2025 Award: $1,000.
Southside Electric Cooperative’s own Southside Opportunity Fund (added 1/29/25) DEADLINE: March 31, 2025
Southside Electric Cooperative’s own Southside Opportunity Fund will award $1,000 scholarships this spring to high school or home-school seniors headed to college or a trade/technical school. Students who receive electricity at their homes from Southside Electric Cooperative are eligible to apply. A combination of weighted criteria is used in the selection process: 45% financial need, 45% academic achievement and 10% personal statement. Scholarships must be used for tuition, student fees, lodging or textbooks. The AAUW-Lynchburg Branch Scholarship (added 1/27/25) DEADLINE: March 15, 2025
Attention Seniors: The counseling office has received information for applying for the The AAUW-Lynchburg Branch Scholarship. This scholarship is open to senior girls who plan to attend a 4-year college/university. An essay and two (2) letters of recommendation are required. Awards are based on academic success and financial need. Deadline: March 15, 2025 Award: $3,000. Applications are available in the Counseling Office and on School Links.
Dennis Carter Student Athlete Scholarship (added 1/27/25) DEADLINE: March 15, 2025
Attention Seniors: The counseling office has received information for applying for the Dennis Carter Student Athlete Scholarship. This scholarship is open to HS Senior Student Athletes in Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford and Campbell counties, as well as the city of Lynchburg – and is named after Dennis Carter – who has meant so much to local sports in our area for the past 40+ years. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Scholarship (added 1/27/25) DEADLINE: March 7, 2025
Attention Seniors: The counseling office has received information for applying for the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Scholarship This scholarship is offered by the Gamma Nu Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and is specifically for African-American males. Applications are available in the counseling office. Deadline: March 7, 2025to Award: Up to $2,500 Criteria: Applicants must have a GPA of 2.7 and must have been excepted or applied to a college or technical school. The primary determinant criteria will be based on academic achievement and financial need. Applications are available from Ms. Faulconer in the counseling office.
Calvary Baptist Church (added 1/21/25) DEADLINE: April 15, 2025
ttention Seniors: The counseling office has received information for applying for the Calvary Baptist Church Community College/Technical School Scholarship. This scholarship is presented annually to one or more graduating seniors who live in the Altavista, Gretna, Rustburg, or William Campbell school districts. A completed application and two letters of recommendation are required. Deadline: April 15, 2025, Award: $500 Criteria: Awards are based on Financial Need and School/Community Involvement. An essay is also required. See Ms. Faulconer in the counseling office for more information.
Association of Women Judges Scholarship (added 1/21/25) DEADLINE: March 1, 2025
Attention Seniors: The counseling office has received information for applying for the Virginia Association of Women Judges Scholarship. Three (3) scholarships will be awarded to Virginia high school seniors. Information on applying for this scholarship can be picked up in the counseling office. Deadline: March 1, 2025, Award: $1,000; $750 and $500. Criteria: Essay requirement. See Ms. Faulconer in the counseling office for more information.
VBA Bank Day (added 1/21/25) DEADLINE: February 28, 2025
Attention Seniors: VBA Bank Day Scholarship Program High School Seniors will spend one day (March 18, 2025) at First National Bank learning about banking, financial services, and the vital role banks play in their communities. From their experience, the students will be required to write an essay reflecting on their day. Sixteen scholarships (six honorable mention, six regional, one statewide, one runner-up, and two from First National Bank) will be awarded based on the essay submissions. Interested students should see Mrs. Faulconer in the counseling office for more information. Deadline: February 28, 2025 *(Deadline to sign-up for the program) Award: $500 to $5,000 Criteria: Students must be currently enrolled as a high school senior in the state of Virginia. Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Resident of Virginia. Must provide teacher/guidance counselor contact information.
Elaine C. Watson Scholarship (added 1/21/25) DEADLINE: March 21, 2025
Attention Seniors: The counseling office has received information for applying for the Elaine C. Watson Scholarship. This scholarship is offered through the Lynchburg Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Applicants must be current high school seniors attending a public, private, or charter high school who plan to enroll full-time at an accredited college, university during the 2025-26 academic year. Applicants should also have an overall GPA of 2.75 or higher (based on a non-weighted 4.0 scale). Only computer-generated applications will be accepted. Please see Mrs. Faulconer for an electronic copy of the application. Deadline: March 21, 2025, Award: TBD Criteria: Official Transcript, two (2) letters of recommendation, and student essay are all required as part of the application.
Granville P Meade Scholarship (added 1/14/25) DEADLINE: February 3, 2025
The Granville P. Meade Scholarship provides financial assistance to students who have achieved academically, but who are financially unable to attend college. The Granville P. Meade fund provides scholarship awards to worthy and financially disadvantaged Virginia high school seniors to attend one of Virginia's public or private colleges or universities.
Principals of all public and nonpublic senior high schools are requested to assist in making students aware of the scholarship opportunity. In the past year, each scholarship was in the amount of $2,000 per year for four years, provided the student continues to meet the scholarship requirements.
Eligibility
Applicants must be:
- A current senior;
- Planning to attend a postsecondary institution in Virginia (university, community college, or technical school); and
- Currently attending a public, private or homeschool in Virginia; however, they do not need to be a U.S. citizen to apply.
Strong applicants:
- Are academically successful. While there is no minimum GPA requirement; this scholarship is competitive in nature and, typically, recipients are those that have an above average academic record; and
- Have experienced significant financial hardships.
Application Process and Timeline:
- January 6, 2025: Application window opens for all students.
- February 3, 2025: Deadline for all students to submit applications to the appropriate party:

Ralph & Mitchell Miles Walker Scholarship (added 1/10/25) DEADLINE: April 3, 2025
Attention Seniors: The counseling office has received information for applying for the Ralph & Mitchell Miles Walker Scholarship. This scholarship is now open to graduating seniors who plan to attend a 2 or 4-year college/university or other accredited professional institution and is open to residents of Campbell and northern Pittsylvania Counties. A minimum GPA of 2.5 and SAT/ACT scores at or above the 50% percentile are required. Awards will be based on academic success and financial need. Horatio Alger Scholarship (added 1/10/25) DEADLINE: April 3, 2025
Attention Juniors: Applications are now being accepted for the Horatio Alger Scholarship. The focus of the Horatio Alger Scholarship program is to identify and support young people who have faced adversity by helping them achieve their dream of a college/university education. This scholarship is open to high school juniors who are US Citizens and demonstrate financial need. For more information and to apply, please visit: horatioalger.org/scholarships. The Hagan Scholarship (added 11/1/24) DEADLINE: DECEMBER 1, 2024
The Hagan Scholarship is a nationwide need-based merit scholarship, providing recipients “regardless of nationality” with the opportunity to achieve their goals and graduate college debt-free. The scholarship provides up to $7,500 each semester for up to 8 consecutive semesters. Applicants must graduate from a high school located in the United States. Eligible high schools include public, private, charter, magnet, and STEM schools. The Applicant’s Adjusted Gross Household Income reported for 2023 Federal Income Tax Purposes must not have exceeded $100,000. Free workshops, Free Schwab Brokerage Accounts, and Free Study Abroad provide recipients with a practical understanding of important life skills not typically covered in the school curriculum. Hagan Scholars have attended 637 colleges and universities located in 49 states and the District of Columbia.
Hagan Scholars who graduate college while in the Hagan Scholarship Program can apply for a Hagan Graduate Scholarship good for up to four additional semesters in college receiving up to $7,500 each semester.

BBB Student of Integrity Scholarship (Added 9/24/24) DEADLINE: JANUARY 31, 2025
BBB Student of Integrity Scholarship: The Better Business Bureau Serving Western VA promotes integrity and ethics in the marketplace through voluntary business self-regulation. Each year we offer scholarships recognizing “Students of Integrity.” The BBB will award scholarships to graduating high school seniors who personify all of the best aspects of strong character in their personal choices and actions. Coca-Cola Scholars Program Scholarship (Added on 9/16/24) DEADLINE: SEPTEMBER 30, 2024
The Coca-Cola Scholars Program Scholarship
The Coca-Cola Scholars Program scholarship is an achievement-based scholarship awarded to students in their final year of high school. Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, as well as their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities. With the 36th class in 2024, the Foundation has provided over 6,900 Coca-Cola Scholars with more than $84 million in educational support. 150 Coca-Cola Scholars are selected each year to receive this $20,000 scholarship. Must apply by September 30, 2024.
VA Sports Hall of Fame Student Achievement Awards (Added 8/29/24) DEADLINE: OCTOBER 18, 2024
The Hall of Fame aims to recognize student-athletes from Virginia’s high schools that excel academically and engage in their communities. Last year, the Hall of Fame awarded $14,000 in scholarships through this initiative:
Four (4) Student-Athletes of the Year each received $1,250 awards
Twelve (12) remaining finalists received $750 awards
Eligibility criteria is below:
Students must attend a Virginia high school (public/private)
Students must be a senior during the academic year of 2024 – 2025 to apply
Students who have a GPA of 3.0 of higher
Students must letter in at least 1 VHSL/VISAA sanctioned sport
One (1) letter of recommendation must be submitted along with the student’s academic/athletic/civic credentials
