To strengthen the partnership between parents and teachers, we are holding our annual Parent-Teacher Conferences on Thursday, October 17, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for an in-person conference. Again this year, we will be using Meet the Teacher to schedule conferences. Online scheduling will start on Monday, September 30, at 6:00 PM and close at 7:30 AM on Monday, October 14th. After 7:31 a.m. on Monday, no additional conferences can be booked. More detailed information, along with the link to Meet the Teacher, was sent out via Infinite Campus. For a more in-depth conversation about your student, please contact the teacher directly to schedule a meeting at another time throughout the year.
2nd Annual Student Career Expo
Barrington High School is thrilled to announce our second annual Career Expo! This year, we're excited to expand the event into our largest space yet, the main gymnasium, to accommodate even more opportunities for our students.
Scheduled for Wednesday, October 16, 2024, during lunch periods, this expo will offer students in grades 8-12 the chance to explore various career pathways, engage with industry experts, and gain insights into the skills required for their future careers. This year we will have folks representing a wide variety of career pathways including finance and business services, health sciences, dentistry, human and public services, agriculture, food & natural resources, arts & communication, manufacturing, engineering, technology and the trades.
October 15th - BHS Testing Day
On Tuesday, October 15th, 2024 Barrington High School will be holding our annual Fall Testing Day for all 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students. This day helps us gather data to support course placement for students for the next school year, helps students practice for the school accountability tests in the Spring, and can help 11th-grade students qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program.
Participate in early voting this month!
During the first half of 2024, more than 2,500 community members collaborated on a plan to continue to improve our aging school buildings. The final $64M community-driven plan will go to you, the voter, for approval as a referendum question on the Nov. 5 ballot. If successful, the referendum will:
- Increase Safety & Security throughout Barrington 220
- Build a New Community Auditorium at Barrington High School
- Enhance STEAM and Instructional Spaces for Students
Limited in-person early voting for the November 5 election is currently underway at select locations across the four counties Barrington 220 serves (Cook, Kane, Lake, McHenry). However, traditional early voting at polling locations closer to the Barrington area will open on October 21. Click the links below to find early voting information for the county you reside in:
National Hispanic-Latino Heritage Month
Hispanic Heritage Month is a month-long celebration of Hispanic and Latino history and culture. While we celebrate Hispanic and Latino communites beyond this month, from September 15 to October 15 we give extra recognition to the many contributions made to the history and culture of the United States, including important advocacy work, vibrant art, popular and traditional foods, and much more.
Hispanic Heritage Month provides an additional opportunity to explore the incredible impact Latinas and Latinos have had on the United States for generations. The Latino presence in America spans centuries, predating Spain’s colonization of what is now part of the United States, and they have been an integral part of shaping our nation since the Revolutionary War. Through the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and the Treaty of Paris that followed the Mexican-American and Spanish-American wars, the United States gained territories in the Southwest and Puerto Rico. This incorporated the people of this area into the United States and further expanded the presence of Hispanic Americans.
Today, the Latino population in the United States today is over 60 million, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. This makes up 18.9% of the total population and is the largest racial or ethnic group. Latinos continue to help fuel our economy and enrich our nation as entrepreneurs, athletes, artists, entertainers, scientists, public servants, and much more.
