If you are dropping off a student to school, please be mindful of the time. Our school day begins promptly at 8 AM. Doors open at approximately 7:30 AM. Doors close at 8 am on the dot. Anyone entering after 8 AM will be marked late. Thank you for your cooperation.

This April, Tolerance is our Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) focus of the month.

Tolerance means respecting and accepting others, even when they have different beliefs, abilities, backgrounds, or ways of doing things, and treating everyone with fairness and kindness. It's about understanding that people are unique and that differences can be valuable.

Why is tolerance important?

• Building a better community: When people are tolerant, they are more likely to work together and build a stronger, more inclusive community.
• Learning from others: Tolerance allows us to learn from people who have different experiences and perspectives, which can help us grow and understand the world better.
• Avoiding conflict: When we are tolerant, we are less likely to argue or get into conflicts with others because we understand that everyone has a right to their own opinions and beliefs.

The CHAMPS program runs from 7:00 am – 7:30 am. This program is free of charge for our students. It is designed to help our students become better fit by exercising every morning. They will take part in fitness activities as well as a variety of team sports.

In order to be considered for Arista, students must fill out a Google Form Application stating they have met the requirements for the 2024-2025 school year. The Google Form will be sent home via Operoo on April 8th and be included in the weekly newsletter. The form will be open until 8:00pm on April 22nd. Only students who complete this form by April 22nd will be considered for Arista.

Once the form has closed, submissions will be reviewed and verified. Not sure if you are eligible to apply? Use the Arista checklist pictured then check in with your teachers about service credits! In this very popular program that has become somewhat of a tradition here at Paulo, parent/student pairs will collaborate with each other (under the expert guidance of a talented teaching artist from Sundog Theatre, Inc.) over the course of just two Saturday mornings to produce a beautiful personalized canvas that will be a lasting memento of the middle school years.

• You can now choose from the additional session dates: April 5th & 26th, May 3rd & 10th, or May 17th & May 31st. The Share out date for all families who participated will be June 8th. Time is always 10 am-12 noon at the school.

We have done this project for a number of years now, and it is always a smash hit! Come join us - you won't be sorry! Click on Google Form to register. Please Note:

1. The Track team will meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30-3:55 for 10 weeks, beginning on Thursday, March 20th and ending on Tuesday, June 3rd.

2. The fee to join will be $130 for the Spring season (includes coaches fees and CYO meets).

Starting with the fall 2025 administration, the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT) will move to a digital model. This computer-based assessment will immediately embed supports for English Language Learners (ELLs) and students with disabilities and will include test questions that vary from the current multiple-choice and grid-in question types. In 2026, the exam will transition to a computer-adaptive test (CAT), which will tailor the questions that students receive based on their ongoing performance.

We are excited to announce our gradewide trip to Nickelodeon Universe on May 30, 2025. Nickelodeon Universe is located at the American Dream Mall in East Rutherford, New Jersey and is the Western Hemisphere’s biggest indoor theme park.

The cost of the trip is $119.95 (which includes a $4.95 transaction fee). This price includes coach bus fare, park entry, class trip t-shirt, and lunch. All payments are non-refundable. The deadline to register is Friday, April 30, 2025. Parents of sixth grade siblings must complete the form separately for each child. Only at Dorney Park will you find the most exciting and thrilling things to do in Allentown, PA, with over 60 world-class rides. Wildwater Kingdom will be off limits for our students!!

· The cost of the trip is $125. This price includes Coach Bus fare, park entry, a meal voucher, an all-day drink wristband and their 7th Grade Class Trip T-Shirt.

· Please note that participation in this trip is contingent upon behavior and overall academic standing. Factors that influence a child’s overall standing include attendance and lateness, class performance, behavior, homework, effort, attitude, and grades. A conduct grade of N, for any reason, may be grounds for exclusion in the trip.

Please note that participation in all upcoming senior activities is contingent upon behavior and overall academic standing. Factors that influence a child’s overall standing include attendance and lateness, class performance, behavior, homework, effort, attitude, and grades. A conduct grade of N, for any reason, may be grounds for exclusion in such events.

The cost of the trip is $126. This price includes coach bus fare, park entry, lunch and a snack. Payment and permission authorization for this trip (Great Adventure Senior Trip) can be found via our website at www.is75.org by clicking the Payment & Registration button. The deadline to register is Monday, April 21st 2025. (If your child has a valid season pass, the cost of the trip is $80.This cost covers transportation and the mega mega meal voucher. Please know that you and your child are responsible to ensure the season pass is valid and available at the time of entry to the park.) Please be advised that students will be not permitted to attend the senior trip if his or her senior dues are not paid.

Closure of Woodrow Road Steps:

• When we return the contractors will be closing the exterior staircase that leads from the schoolyard to Woodrow Rd.
• In the morning, school buses will drop off at exit 11-12. (All other students should enter the building from the rear as usual)

Staff will be at all entrances to assist.

Afternoon dismissal will require students to have their bus passes on them. Teachers have assessed the students in their advisories to ensure they have their passes.

If your child does not have a bus pass, please ask them to let their advisory teachers know, first thing monday morning, so a new pass can be issued before the end of the day.

Please speak to your child upon returning that they go directly to their bus upon dismissal as it will require a slight detour in the afternoon. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation duriing our facelift!

Grades 6–8: The program will run from July 2 to August 8, 2025, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

As in 2024, families can apply for Summer Rising online using MySchools, our online directory and application system.

As we embark on another school year, we are excited to share with you a list of our upcoming school spirit days throughout 2024 - 25. Here at Paulo, we understand the importance of cultivating a sense of student pride and ownership across our hallways and classrooms. We believe that this sense of warmth and optimism allows our students to feel valued and welcomed each and every day and makes Paulo a place where all students can flourish. To this end, we enlist your support in ensuring your child participates in our various Paulo Pride days. We are sharing this calendar of events with you now because we realize on some occasions you may need to secure a special outfit or piece of apparel. Every Friday students are encouraged to wear Paulo apparel. Again, our goal is 100% student participation, and we can’t do it without you!

The annual New York State English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics tests will be administered to all students in grades 3-8 later this spring. Students in grades 5 and 8 will also sit for the New York State science test. These tests are required by the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and are designed to provide important information about whether students are prepared to progress through school and graduate with the critical-thinking, problem-solving, and reasoning skills they need for long-term success in school, college, and careers, and to support students in their pursuit of economic security and a choice-filled life.

These tests are just one of several measures our schools use to assess student progress: grades, report cards, writing samples, projects, assignments, and other performance-based student work are equally important.

This year the ELA STate Test dates are Tues. April 29th and Weds. April 30th

The Math State Test dates are Weds. May 7th and Thurs. May 8th.

Membership in the Paulo Arista Society is reserved for students meeting all of the following requirements:

1. Scholarship – Academic average of at least 91.00% in each marking period with no grade, in any subject, below 80 or “S”. Please note that a course grade of 79 or lower precludes a student from Arista.

2. Citizenship – No citizenship grade below “S” in any marking period. Satisfactory* record of attendance and punctuality. (*See lateness policy in Honor Roll Section, as lateness impacts citizenship.)

3. Service – The attainment of at least 20 service credits per school year.

4. Attendance/Punctuality – Students absent more than 8 days per school year are precluded. (If medical documentation (from a medical office/practitioner) is provided, medical-related absences will not count toward the 8-day limit.) Also, students who are picked up early from school five or more times in a given semester are also precluded from this recognition. Excessive lateness (more than 5 in a given marking period) precludes a student from Arista.

5. Application: All students who have met the above criteria and would like to be considered for induction into Arista must complete an online application that will be made available in April. As a required part of the application, students must write a 2-4 paragraph description of a personal accomplishment from the 2024-2025 school year for which they are particularly proud. Application will be due April 11, 2025.

Each year, students are provided with an opportunity to be recognized for their volunteer efforts. School Service Credits are a way to recognize this dedication and to thank them for assisting in making our school a wonderful place.

The following provides you with an outline of how service credits are handled within our school:

• Binders for the “Service Record Cards” are distributed during the fall to each Advisory Class. The Advisory Class Teacher maintains the Service Record Cards on a weekly basis. Students may submit service credit slips in their Advisory Class at any time.

• Teachers receive “Service Credit Slips” that are used for a variety of service credit opportunities. The “Service Credit Slip” is then given to the student who will present it to their Advisory Class teacher. Service credit slips are maintained in the Service Record Binder.

• Students will have an opportunity to review their service credit status each marking period. The Advisory Teacher allows each child to track their totals accordingly.

• Students are required to achieve 20 service credits, along with a 91 average, exemplary attendance and citizenship, in order to qualify for Honor Society (Grade 6), Junior Arista (Grade 7), and Arista (Grade 8).(Please see ARISTA above or see student Handbook)

• Students can also achieve a Service Award, which is presented annually at the Service Award Assembly. This honors students who have in their career achieved 100+ credits (Gold Award), 75 credits (Silver Award) and 50 credits (Bronze Award).

• Students who volunteer their service outside of school, may bring in a letter of recognition of that service and present that to Mr. Herrmann in Room 339. This external service will be applied to their application for the Philanthropy Award in Grade 8.

• Service credits are only given for in-school service.
