A New School Year!

The 2024-2025 school year is quickly approaching! Some of you reading this are "old pros" to school at Carkenord, but many of you are brand new to school parents and are sending us your babies for the first time. Our promise is that we will work alongside you, nurturing and cheering your child on, while maintaining high academic and behavioral expectations.


This edition is a quick summer blurb with what you need to know to get ready for the school year. A full, more detailed chronicle will come out closer to school starting.

School Age Child Care (SACC)

Carkenord has before and after care available from 6:30 am until school starts and after school until 6:00 pm. Registration will open August 12th. To register, visit Before and After School Care - School Age Child Care - Programs - L'Anse Creuse Public Schools (lc-ps.org) and click on Before/After Care and then Enroll.

Volunteer and Get Involved!

Throughout the school year there will be many opportunities for parents to become involved! Our PTC is a wonderful place to start! PTC (Parent-Teacher Club) sponsors many of our school-wide events as well as helps to support smaller events that take place. More information about PTC meetings and events will come out in September!

School Lunch and Breakfast

We are pleased to share that all students will be able to recieve one free breakfast and one free lunch at school each day. To help us continue to recieve important funding for our building, we need each family to please take a few minutes to complete the Education Benefits form. You may log into the Family Portal at lansecreuse.familyportal.cloud then click on "Apply for Benefits." This is for ALL families, regardless of your financial situation.

School Supplies

Carkenord will supply all materials necessary for students to use in the classroom. Each grade level has developed a "Wish List" that would be helpful, but is NOT required. Stay tuned for a FREE supply night for families in need of help for back to school.

Event Information

Package Pick Up

This year, each family will receive forms in the mail. Please bring the completed forms to school on August 20th. We will be open to collect forms and give you your child’s placement from 10:00 am-12:00 pm, 1:00-4:00 pm, and again from 5:00-7:00 pm.

Event Information

Back to School Bash

Bounce on back to the Playground to meet up with Bounce Houses, a photo booth, a food truck and FUN! Meet up with friends and classmates you have missed over the summer. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Cash only, please. Feel free to bring your own picnic dinner as well.


Consider bringing lawn chairs and blankets so you can sit and enjoy your food!


If you are not able to pick up your packet during the day, the office will be open for you to do so during the Back to School Bash.

Event Information

Kindergarten Orientation

Kindergarten parents and their children will attend Kindergarten Orientation. Students will have the opportunity to see their classrooms, meet their teachers, and then staff will be here to tour students around the building, have them board a school bus, see the library, gym, etc. while parents stay in the classroom to learn more about kindergarte

Open House (1st-5th Grades)

This year the format for curriculum night will be a little different from years past. We have an open house from 5:30-6:30. Stop in to meet your teacher, see the classroom, and drop off any supplies any time between 5:30 and 6:30. Due to parking, please consider carpooling, biking, etc.

School Hours/Early Release Wednesdays

School begins at 8:51 am and dismisses at 3:55 pm on Mondays, Tuesday, Thursdays, and Fridays.

School dismisses on Wednesdays at 2:55 pm (beginning September 4th).


Half Days students are dismissed at 12:10 pm.


Always communicate change of dismissal plans through a note or phone call to the office.

First Day of School

The first day of school is Monday, August 26th.

The first day is a HALF Day of school. Students will be dismissed at 12:10 pm.
