Welcome to the 2024-2025 School Year! We are hoping to make this a super exciting year of fun and learning for all of our students. As we gear up for the first day, there are few things we would like to make you aware of. First, we have some construction going on in the school yard. These are important and much needed repairs to the building, but they are going to cause some inconvenience which we’ll have to work around. Primarily, a section of the school yard will be closed off until further notice. This includes the Wetherole street entrance to the yard, so please plan accordingly.

Please also take a look at the school calendar. There are some important dates to keep in mind; we have several events coming up in the next few weeks that you won't want to miss. As always, we love having parents and family members in the building to help us celebrate the many achievements of our awesome students. Please make a point of joining us whenever you can.

One great piece of news is that we received a capital funding grant from our City Council and Borough President's office. We have been gifted $1 Million to go towards the renovation of our school library to turn it into a full fledged media center. I still do not have too many details as far as planning and timelines for this work to get done but we are all very excited to watch this happen. Our students will most definitely benefit hugely from it.

This school year is already shaping up to be an extraordinary year, and we are beyond proud to share all of the successes and wonderful opportunities for our students.

Due to construction, the Wetherole St. entrance to the school yard will be CLOSED. Please use the Booth St. entrance to enter the school yard. There will be signs for each class and where students can line up.

The school yard will be open as of 7:30 a.m., please do not leave your child unsupervised. Students will begin entering the building at 8 a.m. with their teachers. Due to construction, please allow for extra time for students to enter the building. Please be mindful, there is only one exit and entrance to the school yard at the moment.

Beginning Friday, September 6th, students will enter through their designated Enter/Exit doors.

Please see the map below to identify your child's designated Enter/Exit doors.

Families are free to drop off their child's supplies on September 3rd or 4th between 9am-12pm.

PLEASE LABEL ALL SUPPLIES WITH CHILD'S NAME AND CLASS.

Don't worry if you cannot drop off your child's supplies early, your child can come with their supplies on the first day of school September 5th.

What is Welcoming Wednesdays? I am so glad you asked! Welcoming Wednesdays is where every Wednesday, Mrs.Burgos (Parent Coordinator) will have office hours where parents can sign up to come in for any assistance they may need such as NYCSA account set up, assistance filling out a form due to language barrier or any questions or concerns you may have.

While Ms. Burgos is at P.S.139Q daily, Welcoming Wednesdays will be an opportunity for families to have time especially catered to them for a 1 on 1 session for anything they need assistance with.

There will be a link to a google form on every week's newsletter where parents can sign up for a specific time they would like to come in for help.

Not available on Wednesdays? No worries. Please send an email to Mrs.Burgos with the date and time you are available and she will try her best to accommodate you.

Welcoming Wednesdays will begin September 11, 2024.

If you have attended our last year's "Breakfast Bites & School Hightlights", we have renamed it, Principal Rolon's "Coffee & Conversation". Every month, parents will be invited to have coffee and converse with Principal, Mr. Rolon, Assistant Principal, Mrs. Hookim & Parent Coordinator Mrs. Burgos about all things P.S.139Q! We will be giving updates on everything going on in the building as well as answer any questions parents may have.

If you cannot make Principal Rolon's Coffee & Conversation, don't worry! There will be a flyer sent out to parents with all the information that was shared at this meeting.

Our first Coffee & Conversation will be a KINDERGARTEN PARENTS SPECIAL EDITION where we invite all Kindergarten families to attend & meet the administration at P.S.139Q, ask any questions they may have and meet other Kindergarten families! We look forward to meeting you!

We encourage every one of you to get involved, share your thoughts and contribute your talents to make this year an exceptional one. This is your PTA and in this new school year, we envision it to be more active, while building off of last year’s success.

That all starts with our Eagles. We understand how helpful and comforting it can be to know and have access to other parents in the school so in addition to PTA meetings, we plan to host other events as well as sponsor activities within the school such as Carnivals, Books Fairs, Family Game Nights, and so much more.

Dear Families and Staff,

In just a few weeks, we’ll have our first day of school for the 2024-2025 school year. I always look forward to this time of year—to hallways humming with activity, classrooms buzzing with eager discussion, and playgrounds filled with shrieks of laughter.

We just wrapped up another terrific Summer Rising program. As we turn our attention toward the start of school, I want to encourage families to prepare for September 5 with these critical steps:

• Create your New York City Schools Account (NYCSA); it’s how we’ll get in touch with you throughout the year with critical announcements. If you already have a NYCSA account, check to confirm your contact information is accurate.
• Make sure you’ve submitted all required health forms and that your child is up-to-date on immunizations. Learn more about these health forms—and why they matter—here.
• Check your child’s transportation options and eligibility. You can also learn more about Student OMNY Cards, which are replacing Student MetroCards and offer more free rides and greater flexibility. OMNY Cards can be used four times daily, at any time, 365 days a year—that means free rides on weekends, holidays, and during the summer. Now, students have every reason to tap and take transit!
• Follow us at @nycschools on social media (X/Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook) and check out our blog, The Morning Bell. We’ll be posting lots of exciting updates in the first few weeks of school (and throughout the year), highlighting important information, opportunities for students, and stories that showcase all the great work happening in our schools.

Each school year, all of our families complete the Family Income Survey. You may wonder why it is so important. When all of our families complete the form, this helps with Title I funding. Title I funding is a huge asset to our school. This funding helps all students, through staffing, extra-curricular programs, and supplies. Please complete the form online to ensure that our funding remains.
