Charger Chatter
Week of 8/25/24: Clear Springs High School
Message from CSHS
Good evening Charger Families,
As we begin Week 3, our students have found their groove (and classes :)) throughout the building. Last week, we hosted "Club Rush" so all students had an opportunity to visit with the different clubs and find something they may want to join. It was a fun and busy week as many of our teams competed and performed together for the first time this year. Please have your child show you how they log in to Canvas and access different lessons that support their learning. Tutorials have begun and teacher tutorial times are posted on their Canvas pages.
Open House is THIS WEDNESDAY. This is an opportunity for you to meet your child's teachers, counselors and administrators as well as see the campus and attend a few informational sessions. There will not be bells to change class periods. Parents will get to walk and mingle with others. If you are interested in setting up a conference with a specific teacher, I ask that you email the teacher and set the conference up for a time that is a different time/date than Open House so that we may focus on meeting and greeting as many parents as possible during this short amount of time. We encourage our high school students to bring their parents to Open House and "show them the way" to your classes so they don't get lost or take a wrong turn.
I look forward to seeing you all this week!
It's the Charger Way,
Mandy Scott, Ed.D.

Clear Springs Football Events, please verify participation with your sponsor.

Helping Your Student Use Lightning Lunch Productively
Year two of Lightning Lunch will start Monday (8/19/24). It is important that your Charger uses their time wisely. Each student gets 30 minutes of lunch and 30 minutes of tutorials. In order for everyone to have a safe and meaningful lunch time it is imperative that all students sign up for at minimum 3 sessions per week using the RTI scheduler app. The only exception is seniors who have 6 and 7th period off.
You can help your student make good choices by ensuring they have registered for the tutorials. While there are not many grades yet, they will be coming in very soon and it is always good to be prepared. Clubs will also be starting soon!
Please sit with your Charger and have him/her show you where he/she is going. See the steps below:
1. Log on to the student SSO portal.
2. Click the RTI Scheduler app (shown in the upper right)
3. Navigate to the week of August 19th on calendar view.
4. You should see 3 sessions selected, if you do not there will be a blue "choose a session" button to click. A list of your students available teachers will populate.
--> See the picture below for an example of what it will look like. In this example a student has one tutorial selected (Silent reading study hall) and can select another 4 using the blue "Choose a Session" button.
Extra tips:
- Have your charger check skyward grades to make the best choices for tutorials.
- Check the Lightning Lunch section in the CSHS website for tutorial schedules and lots of helpful information.
CSHS Volunteer Opportunities
If you are interested in volunteering at CSHS, please complete this form. We believe high school is truly a partnership with our families and we want you to be involved in helping all students learn and grow.
CCISD Booster Club Information
- Please note that all booster clubs must submit the fundraising form to the campus principal prior to hosting the fundraiser. This was discussed at the Booster Club Training.
Student Parking Reminders:
The Lightning Lot is where the CSHS Band rehearses during Football season. This means that all vehicles must be removed from the lot prior to 3:15pm.
Students who park in a lot that they are not assigned, or students who park on campus with out a parking permit will receive a parking citation and their vehicle will be booted.
Boots will not begin being removed from vehicles until after 2:45pm. A student who receives a boot will need to come to the front office and request to see the Associate Principal Administrative Assistant. Campus personnel will then be given permission to remove the boot.
Student vehicles who receive a boot will be assigned a $ 35 fee in skyward.
Clear Springs High School and CCISD are not liable for any alleged damage to a vehicle during the placing or removal of a boot on a vehicle.
Please submit any questions regarding parking to cshsparking@ccisd.net.
Dual Credit
Dual Credit classes at College of the Mainland (COM) began the week of August 19, 2024. Click HERE for general dual credit information and the COM academic calendar. Please note, student holidays may differ between CCISD and COM. Students are required to attend dual credit class even if on a CCISD student holiday.
2024-2025 Course Level Changes - 3 Week Grading Period
Course level changes will be considered at the first progress report and at the end of the first nine-week grading period of the semester for each course that offers a different level of the same course. To be considered for a transfer from an Honors or AP course, the student must have made a sincere effort to succeed by attending tutorials, completing his/her work, and by conferencing with his/her teacher. The parent must conference with the teacher before a course level change will be considered. If these conditions are met and the student is earning less than a grade of 75 on the first progress report or at the end of the first nine-week grading period, that student will be considered for a change. Space availability in the receiving course will be a consideration for a course level change.
Any student in an Honors or AP course wishing to be considered for a level down can access the level change request from form from the Counseling Corner in Canvas, Charger Chatter, or from the Counseling Center (Room 1007) beginning August 30th. Forms are due by 3PM on Thursday, September 5th for consideration.
Not sure if your course is eligible for a level change? Click HERE for more information.
The PTSA would love to have parents join! You can join at www.joinpta.org
