It's Social Work Month!

I was born to be a social worker. No really, I was literally born in March and my mother is a retired school social worker. I consider it an honor to do this work each day.


Social workers touch millions of lives each day and it is likely a social worker at some time will assist you, a family member, or a friend. Each day, social workers empower millions of Americans so they can live life to their fullest potential. Social workers also work in communities and in politics to improve living conditions for all.


During Social Work Month I urge you to learn more about our amazing profession, thank the social workers in your lives, and help support the profession!

News & Notes

National School Social Work week is March 7-11. Each year, the School Social Work department has a Jeans Week fundraiser to raise money for our county-wide Emergency Family Fund.


To support our fundraiser, staff can contribute $5 to wear jeans that week. If you would like to support, please submit your funds in a envelope labeled "SSW Jeans Week" and I will be happy to pick up your contribution!


Women's History Month Women make the world go round! Learn and celebrate the amazing contributions women make on a daily basis.

The Calm Corner

In honor of social work month, here are some fun facts about your neighborhood school social worker!


1. I'm the youngest of three! Yes, I was a perfect angel :-)

2. Social work was NOT my first career choice. I originally planned to become a pediatrician!

3. I'm from Augusta, Ga (the Masters golf tournament & James Brown probably come to mind)

4. I'm a sports fan! I love sports talk radio and playing fantasy football.

5. My first job was in a biology lab, examining nematodes. Interesting, right?

6. If I wasn't a social worker, I'd probably own a clothing boutique.

7. I love pancakes! Seriously, I can eat them for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

8. Before I decided to become a social worker, I was a Pre-K teacher. Respect to all my educators!

9. I can't swim! I know, I know...don't judge me!

10. I held a sloth in Costa Rica. It was weird but I survived!
