Notes from Principal Savage
MOA Families!
We have had a great start to the new school year despite network and random power outages! Student attendance is high, iReady assessments are mostly complete, and students are hard at work! I am very excited about how our year has started!
Please remember that student participation and authentic completion of iReady in reading and math is crucial in helping teachers understand where student skills are and how best to support their growth!
Mid-quarter is already approaching (September 27th)! Please make sure that you are checking your student’s grades and asking them to show you their Canvas page, so you can help them track missing assignments. Advisory teachers have created a wonderful planning tool for students. Ask your child about the schedule they created for their learning!
Now that we are almost three weeks into the year and the dust is settling, I’d like to provide you with a tip for at-home learning coaches: Although our school day is about 3.5 hours long, student learning should NOT stop because there isn’t a Zoom. Asynchronous work time will play a direct role in your student’s success and academic growth! Your at-home learning plan should include time DAILY for reading and assignment completion! The beauty of online learning is that you can decide what time works best for your child’s work time! Keeping a consistent schedule of work time supports student success and makes learning a vital part of your family’s at-home culture!
Help Session for work support is available Monday through Friday from 12:30-3:30PM! Advisory teachers have Mr. Noble’s help session Zoom link on their Canvas pages. He can help you even if your questions aren’t about math.
Sixth graders have been assigned PE and Health in Edgenuity as of September 12th. Advisory teachers are collecting elective choices in advisory for 7th and 8th graders. Once advisors have their students’ selections, those electives will be added to Edgenuity. We hope to have them assigned very soon! Edgenuity courses can be accessed via the Edgenuity app in HelloID. Sixth grade will not get electives until the second semester, as we must provide health and PE curriculum. Seventh and Eighth graders should expect to see those courses instead of an elective during the second semester as well.
Heads up! Due to our lower than anticipated enrollment, staffing shifts are on the horizon. This may mean a slight change in your student’s schedule or teacher assignment. It shouldn’t be too impactful for your student, but I will definitely send notice home when those changes occur. They could be next week, or they could be a couple weeks from now. Please do not worry; I just wanted to make families and students aware.
Thank you all for such a great start to the school year! Please make sure to follow our Facebook for events and updates.
Have a great rest of the month!
Sincerely,
Natosha Savage

MOA Grades 4-8 New Home!
We've moved to our new home in Oakdale Middle School! MOA is located in room 216. We have room to host a few students for in-person work or one-on-one opportunities!
Make School Attendance a Priority
- Talk about the importance of showing up to school every day so your student knows this is your expectation.
- Encourage your student to maintain daily routines, such as finishing homework or getting a good night’s sleep.
- Avoid scheduling non-urgent dental and medical appointments when classes are in session.
- Post your student's class schedule and log in information in a visible location, such as on the refrigerator or teen desk.
- Identify a quiet place for your student to participate in class and do school work. Or ask your school or community agencies if they have created places for distance learning. If you have more than one child, make a schedule.
ParentVue
Use your ParentVue account to track your student's attendance, grades and other important information. Check ParentVue at least once a week to help your student stay on track. Click here for instructions on how to set up your account.
Back to School Immunizations
Is your student up to date on their required vaccines? Immunization shots are required by law for children in attendance at public schools. Click here to see the required immunization for your student.
Student Photo Usage
Medford School District staff often take photos and videos of students during field trips, school events, sports activities, performances and during classroom instruction to share the work and accomplishments of students. Those accomplishments are shared through the district
website, social media, print publications, fliers, and brochures. The district also works with local news media to promote student work, as well as district projects and initiatives.
If you do not want your student’s image to be published, please visit your school office to fill out a Publicity Denial form. We will make every effort to protect the privacy of your students.
Please note the district cannot guarantee a student’s image will not be published if the student is photographed/videotaped in a large group or crowd setting, such as school assemblies, sports events, and public meetings.
Please contact the Communications Department at msd.communications@medford.k12.or.us with any questions.
