Refine mental aptitudes
Bring new excitement to learning
Develop teamwork and a sense of fair play
Experience a sense of pride and dignity
Foster self-discipline and perseverance
Enjoy camaraderie with students from other schools
Receive recognition/awards for their academic excellence
Affirm self-worth
Glorifying God with the talents that he has blessed us
HAVE FUN!!!!
This year at Zion, teachers will be integrating several PSIA subjects into our curriculum. Your child will be working on Spelling, Vocabulary, Math, etc. in class. Your child will also work on events independently at home. No regular after school practices will be scheduled.
We will participate in the following contests/events this year:
*Art Memory 4th-8th *Calculator Applications 6th-8th
*Creative Writing 1st-2nd *Dictionary Skills 4th-8th

All students from grades K-8 will have the opportunity to consider trying out for one or more of the PSIA academic events. Please look over the PSIA sign up form . If your child is interested in participating in any of the contests, fill out the form and return it to your child’s teacher before Friday, December 6, 2024. The district meet will take place in Giddings on Friday, February 21, 2025. PSIA participating students will be excused from classes at Zion on that day.
Since our teachers and coaches may only select a limited number of students at each grade level to be entered at the district level in each event, we encourage you to visit with your child about his/her interests and the possibilities of entering these events. If there is a large number of children interested in the same event, a test will be held by the teacher/coach to determine the participants and the alternate of the events. Parents of participants are required to coach an event or volunteer to help at the district meet.
There will also be a participation fee of $50 per child, which helps cover the cost of materials, registration, and district meet fees. You will be billed through FACTS next semester like a field trip. Please complete and send this form to your child’s homeroom teacher. PSIA materials will be sent home as soon as your registration form is received. From our district meet, one or two students will advance in each contest to the PSIA state meet to be held at Texas State University in San Marcos on Saturday, April 12, 2025. There is an additional fee to compete at the state meet.
Further information about each contest may be found on the PSIA website: www.psiaacademics.org.
Please find attached the Registration form.
Please direct your questions to your child’s teacher, Mrs. Winkelman: suzan.winkelman@zionwalburg.org or Mrs. Knippa: carla.knippa@zionwalburg.org
