February 2025

Principal's Message
Hello again, Chester Ronning School Community!
With the arrival of February, we are now officially in the second half of the school year. Our students celebrated 100 Day on February 21, which marks 100 days of learning and is an especially big deal for students in our younger grades as they mark a number of learning milestones. This year, we saw everything from art projects and crafts proclaiming students as "100 Days Smarter" special 100-themed activities in Phys. Ed. to a fashion show where students showed off their outfits representing the number 100!
Besides marking the second half of the school year, February is an important month in our calendar for a few other reasons. It has been dubbed Kindness Month at CRS and the students have been hearing daily kindness missions in the announcements. Most of the time, these are simple suggestions such as being intentional with compliments, including a classmate at recess time or expressing gratitude to an adult. Hopefully you have noticed a few of these kindness missions being completed at home over the last couple of weeks! Our teachers have also started a Kindness Challenge where students can be nominated by adults for their acts of kindness. All of these missions are leading us to Pink Shirt Day on Wednesday, February 26, when our staff are planning an assembly where several of the kindness nominations will be drawn for special prizes.
February is also Black History Month, which provides us with an opportunity to recognize people of African descent and to honour the legacy of Black people in our communities. If you haven't already, consider visiting the Government of Canada website and the Historica Canada website among others for more information about Black History Month in Alberta and across Canada. Our school also just received a copy of the book, We Remember the Black Battalion, written by Serena Virk and illustrated by Arnab Das. If this is a story that you would like to read with your child, please encourage them to look for it in our Learning Commons!
Yours in Education,
Reid Lansing
