Good afternoon,

We are finishing another week of awesome learning in classrooms at Bush Elementary. I have seen writing celebrations, small group instruction, and engaging lessons throughout the building. I can't wait to share more about what to expect from classroom instruction at our first Parent University session Wednesday, September 22. We will be talking mostly about reading, writing, and math instruction and sharing information about what reading levels mean. I hope you can join us on Zoom at 6:00 next Wednesday. In addition to spending time observing awesome teaching and learning, I have had the opportunity to talk with many of you. In phone calls this week, I have reached out to parents just to see how the year is going for your kids. These short, impromptu conversations have been one of the highlights of my week. The one thing that has come across very clearly is: your kids love their teachers. I hope you know how much our teachers love your kids as well. I'll keep calling next week, but you don't have to wait for me to reach out. If you're looking for a way to say thank you to a teacher or highlight the impact of a Bush Elementary staff member, we encourage you to access your Parent Access Account (PAC) to write a Teacher Achieving Excellence (TAE). If you don't have a PAC account yet, you will want one. You can monitor your child's grades, attendance, and much more. You can use this link to create an account: https://www.conroeisd.net/parents/. You will need to know your child's 6 digit ID. (It's their lunch number.) To create a TAE, look under the communication tab.

Conroe ISD's Roadmap to Remaining Open is available online at https://www.conroeisd.net/roadmap-to-reopening/. Please check back for up-to-date information. The site is updated as new information and guidance are received from the Texas Education Agency (TEA), the Governor's Office, and state and local officials.

Transportation changes must be made in writing before 2:00 PM. We cannot accept transportation changes by phone. To submit a transportation change, you may send a written note to your child's teacher or provide a not to the front office with the following information:

• the date
• your child's full name
• homeroom teacher
• bus number (if applicable)
• your signature

If an emergency arises, you may send an email to bush@conroeisd.net. The e-mail must include all of the above information, including a parent signature, and must be received before 2:00 PM. If you submit a transportation change by email, it must go to the email address referenced above. Teachers do not check their email regularly throughout the day, so transportation changes should not be emailed directly to the teacher.

Please send a new note for each day the change occurs; we cannot accept notes for multiple days or with multiple changes. District policy states that a student may only ride the bus they are registered to ride; students may not have a transportation change to ride a different bus.

Please help your student be fully prepared for their day by ensuring that they have all needed materials (i.e., backpack, lunch, and water bottle) as they arrive at school. We are unable to deliver lunches and water bottles to students. We will ensure that any student who forgot lunch is fed in the cafeteria, and we will provide water to any student who needs it.

If you need eye glasses delivered to your child, please bring them to the school. We will deliver them to your child immediately. Any class work, binders, or books dropped off at the school will be placed in the teacher's mailbox to be picked up during the day.

Delivery of flowers, balloons, and similar items students at school is not permitted.

After school playground reminders... Due to safety reasons a parent or guardian is required to monitor their children while playing after dismissal on the playground. Students are not allowed to return to the building after dismissal to use the clinic restroom.

If your child receives a positive COVID-19 test, please go to the link below and follow the prompts to enter your child’s positive results. September is National Lice Awareness Month. Please remember outbreaks of head lice tend to Occur when children return to school after summer vacation and holiday breaks.

I am finishing up our first round of counseling lessons, visiting all classrooms to introduce myself and discuss the role of the school counselor as it pertains to our students. Our lessons have focused on the identification of feelings in ourselves and others. The ability to master this skill aids in the development of social skills and self-regulation. Third and fourth grades classes expanded on this lesson by considering the effects our feelings and character traits have on others.

If you placed your Spirit Wear order after the July 1st pre-order deadline, and you did not receive your items at Meet the Teacher, then they were included in our second order with our vendor. In an effort to not have unnecessary stock on hand and spend unnecessary funds, we only order what has been pre-purchased by parents. Our second order deadline closed on 8-31 and our order was placed with the vendor last weekend. It will take approximately 3-4 weeks for the items to be printed, received by us and delivered to your student's classroom.
