Special Educators - We Love You
Special educators across the district work tirelessly to support students that have an identified disability that impacts their school experience. We are so lucky at Scott to have a strong group of dedicated educators that show up every day to support our students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Hooray for Ms. Rebecca, Teacher Dawn and Ms. Brie.
Scott Behavior Support Practices
Last week the PTA held a community meeting to talk about how the school supports unexpected behaviors such as bullying and gossip, among other things. Here is the slide deck presentation in case you were unable to attend.
Arab American Heritage Month
April is Arab American Heritage Month. This is an opportunity to recognize the 3.5 million Arab Americans that exemplify so much of what our country stands for: hard work, resilience, compassion, and generosity. See below for just a few examples of Arab Americans that have positively impacted our country.
Scott Schoolwide Values
Scott has four shared values that have been part of our school for years. These were originally created with staff, student and family voice. Our shared values are the foundation of the conversations we have with students about expectations for behavior and how to be in community with one another. Our values include:
PERSEVERANCE - I try things in new ways, even when I make mistakes.
INCLUSIVENESS - I show care to all people.
INTEGRITY - I follow expectations, especially when no one is looking.
DEDICATION TO EXCELLENCE - I try my best to be my best.
When students demonstrate one of the values above, a staff member may recognize that student by giving them a Scottie Paw. Scottie Paw drawings take place in some classrooms at different times and we have a weekly Scottie Paw drawing for all grades during lunch. Students who have their Scottie Paw drawn can choose from a number of incentives including a positive phone call home from the principal, making a bracelet, eating lunch at a special table and many more.

We Try New Things
McDaniel High School students visited our cafeteria before spring break to invite our students to taste test new bean recipes they created that might become part of the PPS nutrition services menu. Scotties tasted different bean recipes and share their perspective by voting with a sticker to show how whether they enjoyed the recipe or not. The McDaniel students said they had a great time and appreciated the feedback!
Attendance Matters
We're thrilled to share that our year-to-date schoolwide attendance is just over 90%! Our goal is to have 90% attendance throughout the year because it's very hard to engage in classroom learning from home. 😊 Way to go, Scotties!
Congratulations to Mr. Brown's class who have earned an attendance award. They've chosen a trip to the park!

Cafeteria Volunteer Opportunity (Reminder)
Our lunchroom staff needs your support! Due to staff shortages caused by assignments at other schools, Scott School's lunch team could really use an extra set of hands to prepare food and serve students. Your assistance will make a big difference!
As a bonus, Lunch Helpers receive a complimentary meal. Thank you for lending a hand!
Please note: In order to volunteer during school hours when students are present, you must have a completed PPS Volunteer Application and Background Check.
Please click here to sign up. Thank you!
