PEEK AT THE WEEK

Please join me in welcoming two new staff members upon our return to school this week. Rejeanna Siegel will be starting in room 3 at Central/GSRP as a long term associate teacher sub for Heidi Alcodray as Heidi continues in the lead teacher long term sub position. Also, Addison Wagner, DCS 2019 graduate will be starting as a latchkey caregiver in the Cardinal's Nest a.m. preschool latchkey room. If you see them, please introduce yourself and make them feel welcome.

Cardinal's Nest and Central/GSRP staff mark you calendars! The first of three TS Gold Checkpoint dates for 2019-2020 is right around the corner. Friday, November 29th is the deadline for data entry. Please make sure all required data and anecdotal notes are entered by this date. If you have any questions, please see Heather Williamson or myself. The first GISD county data review day will be held in December and we will follow up with a data review day with Davison staff at our next Early Release Day.

The registration and payment deadline for session #4 of Cardinal's Nest 3 and 4 year old preschool and Davison latchkey at Cardinal's Nest, Hahn, Hill, and Gates is Thursday November 14th. Michelle Edwards will be sending out reminders to DCS staff and currently registered families through email and social media. Both Cardinal's Nest 3 and 4 year old preschool staff and Davison latchkey staff should start sending out the usual session payment reminders starting this Friday, November 8th. Thank you for helping to get the word out!

We had a productive PD session on Friday, October 25th for Early Learning staff with Melanie Berry, Great Start to Quality, Quality Control Specialist presenting on the topic of MiRegistry. Staff in attendance learned about the requirements for licenced child care sites including preschool at Cardinal's Nest and Cenral/GSRP along with Hahn, Hill, and Gates latchkey sites. Staff were able to begin completing the required their online profiles which are essentially an electronic resume for staff. Lori Peppin and I will be attending a follow up meeting this Wednesday, November 6th with Melanie to complete our District information for MiRegistry and ultimately our Great Start to Quality star rating requirements for our preschool sites at both Cardinal's Nest and Central/GSRP.

The latchkey and preschool monthly site supervisor/program director and office staff meeting will take place prior to session #4 registration and deadline will take place in the early learning office at Central/GSRP on Monday, November 11th at 9:15 a.m. We will be discussing the registration and payment procedures, BIR's, and on-site licensing notebooks. Please mark you calendars. I look forward to meeting with staff!

COOL TO CARE CAMPAIGN 2019

The annual Cool to Care Campaign kicks off on the day we return, Monday, November 4th and runs through Monday, December 2nd. This year our building goal is 2 cans per student at Cardinal's Nest preschool and Central/GSRP preschool. If we reach this goal we will celebrate on Thursday, December 5th at Central/GSRP and Friday, December 6th at Cardinal's Nest preschool with a Pajama Day! A collection table will be set up in the Cardinal's Nest and Central/GSRP foyer areas for food items. Please include Cool to Care information in your classroom newsletters. However, as we have a significant free and reduced lunch population, we do not want to put pressure on families to participate. We need to be mindful that many of our families seek Holiday assistance for themselves. The awareness of the need for a low pressure participation is not unique to our preschool buildings, but has been recognized by District Administrators due to the socio-economic conditions in our community. Teachers, please keep your own classroom food item contribution tallies so we will have accurate numbers for collection day. Thank you for your help with this!

This Thursday, November 7th, three Delta Dental students will be visiting Central/GSRP classrooms to do a Healthy Teeth presentation for our 1/2 day GSRP students in rooms 2, 4, and 5. A detailed schedule will be emailed to teachers this week. Stay tuned!

Amanda Proffer, GISD literacy coach will be with us again this year to support preschool teachers with the implementation of the ten literacy essentials. See the note from Amanda below. Amanda will be starting this month in the Cardinal's Nest GSRP p.m. classroom.

From Amanda:

This year the plan for literacy will start with support for new teachers or associates that have bumped up. I will be in the classrooms for six weeks, visiting once a week in your class for about thirty minutes each time. I will cover essentials 4,3, and 2/5 of the ten literacy essentials, modeling two lessons each. I will model the lessons in a whole group setting so that way you and staff can take notes on the lesson and different strategies that are used to deliver the essentials to children to grow their literacy experiences. Then I will take a moment to debrief with you about how the lesson went. Due to the amount of classrooms receiving support from me across the county I do not have much flexibility with in my schedule, so I appreciate you for making accommodations for my visits for the next six weeks..

As we return from intersession, it is time to review and RETEACH Cardinal Code. What does this mean for all teachers? Time to pull out the Cardinal Code Matrix and make sure you are reviewing the vocabulary from the Cardinal Code and referring to the Big Rules and Little Rules. Our preschool buildings will be included GISD's PBSC fidelity walkthroughs to see how well our preschoolers understand the big and little rules of the Cardinal Code. KEEP UP THE CODE!
