No school - Monday, September 2nd - Labor Day
A message from the Principal - Mrs. Bookman
To our Suffield Family,
In September of 1924, Suffield School opened its doors for its very first year! We can't wait to celebrate our centennial birthday all year long!
The start of the 2024-2025 school year was amazingly smooth! The Back to School Celebration the day before was hot, but so much fun! We just loved seeing all of the families out enjoying the beautiful evening. We'd like to thank Miller Party Rental for the tents, tables, and chairs; Lifetouch for the water and chips; Duma Meats for the delicious hot dogs; Sams Club for the delicious cookies, and the PTA for all the help making it happen! Thank you to everyone who came and also to those who helped out!
We have many new student faces at Suffield. Besides all of the kindergarteners, we have approximately 22 new students who are new to our school this year! We love adding new students to our already amazing school family! We also welcome Miss Gordon, to 1st grade; Miss Merz, to 2nd; Miss Hitchcock, to 4th grade; Miss Bednar, to 4th grade; Mrs. Hawks, as custodian; Miss Elkins, to our cafeteria; and Mr. Misanko, as assistant principal. Please reach out and welcome anyone new!
We have concluded our week of kindergarten testing and next week we will welcome A-L students on Tuesday and Wednesday, then M-Z students on Thursday and Friday. All Kindergarten students then begin all-day, every-day kindergarten on September 9th. We can't wait to have all of those smiling faces at one time!
We would like to remind you to refrain from arriving at school for morning drop-off before 8:45 unless your child is having breakfast. Those who are having breakfast can pull up and drop off at 8:30. If your child is not having breakfast, please be sure to join the line in the back parking lot. That line will move at 8:45 when regular school drop-off begins. So far we've been doing excellent with this! As our kindergarteners are added over the next few days, this could change, so please support and help out the new families with this process! As you pull out of the driveway, please note that this is now a RIGHT TURN ONLY onto Waterloo Road. This keeps the line going smoothly so you can get on to your morning routines!
Remember to have your child's name card available at the time of pick-up. Please rubber band or clip it to your driver's side visor. This allows the person calling the names to be able to see it clearly. We have noticed that the pink paper is a little more difficult to see, so have patience! Also, Mr. Misanko and Mrs. Metz will be helping with car rider pick up and they don't know the cars quite like me, so please help them out! Keep it showing until your child gets into the car. This way we can confirm that we have the right child in the right car!
Be sure to check the flyer below with a fun way to support your teachers and staff. The PTA is inviting interested parents to "Stock the Lounge". If interested, grab an extra box of your favorite prepackaged snack or drink while grocery shopping and send it in during your grade level's month!
I hope that you enjoy the beautiful Labor Day weekend with your family. We will see everyone back at school on Tuesday!

New ELA Curriculum
We wanted to let you know that our district selected and approved a new curriculum for English Language Arts classes for Kindergarten through 5th grade. The program is Benchmark Advance 2022. Benchmark Advance 2022 is a comprehensive reading program that is aligned with the Science of Reading. The program has a strong focus on foundational skills, building background knowledge, vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking skills.
Students will receive consumable workbooks as well as have digital access to ebooks, online games, and practice activities. Parents will also receive activities that they can do at home with their child. We are excited to partner with you to support literacy learning in grades K-5.
If you have any questions regarding the new program, please reach out to your child’s teacher or principal.

Substitutes Needed
We are now hiring classified substitute workers for various roles, including Playground Monitors, Educational Aides, Cafeteria Workers, Secretarial Staff, Custodial Staff, Bus Aides, and Bus Drivers. A current BCI & FBI background check is required before applying for any substitute position. Some positions may also require an aide permit, which the Administration Office can help you obtain. You have the flexibility to work the hours that suit you, and you'll be on call to cover for regular employees. For more details or assistance with the application process, please contact Bev Bable at the Administration Office beverly.bable@fieldlocalschools.org.
Birthday Treats
At this time, we will allow Birthday Treats to be brought to school. We are required to inform you of the Healthy Eating Guidelines (see below) and suggest that you use this when selecting a treat. Whatever you choose, please note that all treats brought to school for the purpose of sharing with others, need to be prepackaged so we are able to know and see the ingredients list. There are many students who have a variety of food allergies and having the ingredients listed helps the school nurse determine if a student with allergies can eat a particular treat.
Suffield CARES
Suffield CARES helps provide “short-term emergency needs” to families in Suffield. If you are in danger of having your electric or heat terminated, being evicted or have other emergency needs, call Mrs. Bookman at school or Chief Rasnick at (330)628-9240.
