How is it June?
We say it every year, but it's amazing that another school year has flown by. In the same token, it's easily the busiest time of the year as we all face deadlines, and the final day of the 2023-24 school year. We had such a busy Spirit Week that we got backed up and didn't get this to you earlier, on our regular cadence. We hope that didn't inconvenience anyone!
It doesn't stop this week either. Hard to believe that this is Monday of the last week of school for our oldest students. At this time of writing, our 8th Grade students are enjoying their final week of their St. Therese careers, at the Grotto on a spiritual retreat. Reports back are that they have enjoyed the time to reflect and bond as a group. Lots of emotions and maybe even some tears. Mrs. Baumbach noted that the students very much appreciated the letters from home, so to those 8th Grade families and loved ones who drafted those, thank you.
I would encourage you, as I always do, but especially now, to pay attention to the upcoming dates and events. Check correspondence and weekly messaging from your student's homeroom teacher too. Our younger grades have a number of field trips this week and next. If you have questions, as always, reach out.
Our school mass this week will be on Friday, rather than Wednesday, at 8:30 in St. Therese Church. Please join us in the celebration of the Eucharist this Friday if you are able to. Everyone is welcome, folks of all denominations, Catholics and non-Catholics. Following the liturgy, we will present our final Virtues Awards of this year, to students of every grade. Parents of the student recipients of the awards are notified by homeroom teachers. Lastly please see the note from Father Gabriele below about Summer Camp opportunities. This is time sensitive, so register by this Friday!
Whether you are new to the St. Therese community or have been here for years, I want to say with sincere gratitude what a privilege it is to be a part of this community. It's not always easy work, but it's work that I cherish. As a parent of children in Catholic schools, I know the sacrifices that you make as parents to afford your children this opportunity. I don't take the responsibility of leading this school lightly. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
All the best,
Principal Schoning
Dear parents,
First, let me take the opportunity to thank you for a wonderful first six months at St. Therese! If my smile from 8:00 to 8:15 each day doesn’t betray how much I love seeing your kids at drop off, then I don’t know what would. I can’t say that I know all of their names, but I do know all of their faces. I thoroughly enjoy being here and am a bit sad that I won’t see most of them for the summer months.
That said, I would like to invite your children to a few days of summer camp that my community, Family of Mary, is hosting. We are doing it in conjunction with St. Henry and St. Joseph the Worker parishes but everything will take place at St. Therese.
From June 24-27 there will be a day-camp for children 1-5 grade from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. We will divide up into groups and rotate between a number of different activities such as crafts, games, and of course catechism. We will have Holy Mass each day with the liturgy being prepared by one of the groups. There will be more precise information as the week comes closer, but we ask that you register your children by this coming Sunday, June 9. Please, see the attachment with the QR code or go to: https://signup.com/go/MRvdyGy In addition, we will be having a one-day camp for middle and high school students on Friday, June 28 from 9 – 3. You can sign up with the same link.
Since this is the first year we have offered such a camp, we have limited the invitation to our three parishes and St. Therese School. If the kids enjoy it, we hope to expand next year!
Already now, I wish you a safe and restfully summer, enjoying perhaps the beauty of God’s creation outdoors and most certainly the love found when you gather together as a family.
I look forward to seeing you all soon.
God bless,
Fr. Gabriele M.
