Rewards and Recognition
The why and how at MPE
Why do we recognize students?
I have said it before and I will say it again... We are in the business of kids! Recognizing and rewards students is part of our jobs as educators and helps us make progress towards goal #4 of the HEBISD strategic plan (Safe, Healthy and Nurturing Schools).
The Impact of Praise
Naming and noticing students for traits other than intelligence has a major impact on their motivation to learn and produce. This video describes research that was done by Carol Dweck, who is a leader in the realm of growth mindset.

This google extension will allow you to throw virtual confetti during a google meets. Note: This will only show on your students' screens if you are presenting or sharing your screen.
How do we name and notice at MPE?
We know that you are naming and noticing students regularly in your classroom. However, at MPE, we would like to extend that by recognizing students on announcements. Announcements are not only seen by students but NOW by parents that are helping their students with virtual learning. How awesome would it be to hear your child recognized in front of the whole school? We want to let students and parents know that their child is part of a safe, healthy and nurturing school (strategic goal #4).
We will also be adding a six weeks award for students that have truly excelled at each trait. Mrs. James will be doing a recording of the awards ceremony each six weeks for those awards and we will be printing certificates to send or mail home!
