PUSD School Updates
Schools Closed through January 17, 2025
Dear Hamilton School Community,
I want to begin by expressing our heartfelt gratitude to the first responders who are working tirelessly to contain the Eaton Fire, which is currently at 27% containment as of 8am this morning. The safety and well-being of our community remain our top priority, and we encourage everyone to stay cautious, stay informed, and take the necessary precautions.
Please keep updated on all PUSD messaging here.
At Hamilton and across PUSD, we are committed to supporting our families and moving forward together during this challenging time:
- Student Learning: During the week of January 13-17, 2025, PUSD students will have access to self-directed, online learning options. These learning options, by grade span (elementary) and subject area (secondary), are hosted on Canvas and are accessible via Clever and directly at this link: http://gopusd.com/learning These learning options support students’ continuity of learning, engagement, and their social-emotional well-being. Please note that these are optional for students. They will not be graded, nor will they be required. Our goal is to help our students redirect their focus from the tragedy our communities are facing, provide them with a sense of routine, and give them the opportunity to engage in skill development during this difficult time.
- Technology: We are taking inventory and gathering replacement devices for students and staff and will send information out early next week.
Support for Families: Many of our Hamilton and PUSD staff members and families have lost their homes or have been evacuated. With safety concerns and so many families/staff displaced, PUSD has decided to close schools for the rest of the week. Many Hamilton families have been reaching out to me to see how they can help. Next week, I'm hoping we will have a better sense of the needs and will be able to offer more targeted help to our staff and families. in the mean time, our partnerships with local organizations such as PEF, we continue to provide essential supplies and water to families in need. A special thank you goes out to the volunteers, including our students, who have volunteered in this effort.
- How Can You Help? The Pasadena Educational Foundation (PEF) is supporting recovery efforts, and you can join in by visiting pased.org/responsefund to contribute or learn more.Grab & Go Meals: Our Grab & Go Meal centers have been operating to ensure that students and families have access to meals. More than 1,500 meals have already been served, and Grab & Go Centers will continue to be open from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. weekdays at Field Elementary, Madison Elementary School, and McKinley School.
Preparing for the Return to School: Our Maintenance & Operations teams have already begun cleaning and preparing our school sites, including Hamilton. We are focused on ensuring that our campuses are ready to welcome our students back to in-person learning as soon as possible.
Please know that we are in this together, and myself and the district communications team will continue to keep you updated as the situation develops. Your safety and well-being are our primary concern, and we remain committed to ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all of our students and families.
With gratitude and care,
Principal Cooper
