Principal's Message
Dear Chaparral Families,
Our staff is still in shock over the sudden passing of Raffy Manalansan. Raffy was a valued member of the Chaparral community and our hearts break for his wife, daughter, and son. Raffy's obituary can be viewed here and it includes information about upcoming services.
The strength of a community is often demonstrated in times of hardship and I was truly touched when the CHES staff expressed the desire to forgo any staff appreciation efforts and, instead, ask for donations to Raffy's family. Therefore, we humbly ask you to give what you can to Raffy's family via CAPES Paypal or Venmo (@ChaparralCAPES). Be sure to include a note with payment that it is for Raffy's family. Please make your donation by Friday, May 10th so CAPES can issue a check to the family. CAPES is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and your donations are always tax-deductible.
Dr. Denise Goulart

APEX Fundraiser is Here + Fun Run Volunteers Needed
APEX continues this week with leadership habits in the classroom and fundraising at home. APEX is one of the BIG THREE annual fundraisers for CAPES and our children have really loved participating each year. All the money raised through APEX pledges goes to paying for CAPES programs at Chaparral such as Music, P.E., Garden, Innovation Lab, and Impact. Last week, your child should have come home with an APEX pledge kit including all the information about the APEX program and associated fundraising. If you didn't receive the pledge kit or need help accessing online APEX information, fill out this form or ask your teacher for your child's access code.
The main running event for APEX will occur on Thursday, May 9th, and volunteers are needed to mark laps while the children run. To organize volunteers, we have set up a sign-up sheet which can be accessed here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0F45ABA629ABFD0-49354298-apex#/. Note that individuals do not need to meet the regular volunteer requirements to help with this event since Chaparral staff will be present at all times. Please review the time slots and consider helping with this important event. Thank you!

Volunteer Leaders Needed in 2024/2025 School Year!
We are looking to fill important CAPES leadership positions in the 2024/2025 school year. We have several volunteer leaders who will be promoting out of Chaparral and some who have served their term limit on the board; therefore, we are in search of new parents willing to commit some of their time and talent to the Chaparral Association of Parents and Educators for Students (CAPES).
The CAPES board is responsible for all aspects of CAPES operations. These individuals, along with the committee chairs and members, play an important role in assuring funds are raised, valued programs are supported, and special events are included in the Chaparral family experience. CAPES support and pays for integral learning and cultural experiences the district does not fund. For CAPES to continue its mission and support the philosophy, programs, and activities of Chaparral Elementary, we need willing volunteers to lead the organization and partner with the school to make important decisions that directly impact our children.
The annual slate for CAPES is in the planning stages for 2024-2025 school year and we ask all parents to consider the time and talents they can offer for the benefit of Chaparral Elementary. If you are interested and want to learn more, please email chaparralcapes@gmail.com with your name and contact information by April 30th.
School Supply Kits Available + Coordinator Needed!
It's time to purchase your 1st day of School Supply kit for the 2024/2025 school year! This is a simple fundraiser that allows parents to bypass the stress of shopping for school supplies in August and, instead, purchase a custom, supply kit created by Chaparral teachers. Supply kits are delivered directly to students in their classrooms on the first day of school.
IMPORTANT! CAPES needs a volunteer leader to coordinator supply kit organization and distribution on the first day of school. This is a very simple volunteer position that takes no more than 4-6 hours prior to and in the morning on day first day of school. Lead Volunteer responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Communicate with outside company to provide school supply kits, as needed
- Receive supply kit delivery
- Coordinate supply kit organization by teacher roster
- Organize volunteer team to distribute supply kits to students on the first day of school
If interested in coordinating this fundraiser, please please email chaparralcapes@gmail.com.
