I hope you all had a restful few days and were able to spend time with family and friends.
Starting this week, Northeast will be participating in The Hour of Code. Previously, we have participated in Waltham Codes, a district-wide initiative to bring computer programming into every school. While not as widely advertised this year, some Waltham schools are running Hour of Code activities to help students learn to think like programmers. Whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly depend on understanding how technology works.
The Hour of Code is a global movement introducing tens of millions of students worldwide to computer science, inspiring kids to learn more, breaking stereotypes, and leaving them feeling empowered. As per the Hour of Code movement: The Hour of Code is a free introduction to computer science through fun activities and videos for learners of all skill levels. This year's celebration of both coding and AI is supported by over 400 partners, 20,000 educators, and 58,000 volunteers.
Ms. Serafin will be going to each class in the next two weeks to participate in Hour of Code (plugged and unplugged activities) with students. (K will be participating in January). Our Northeast Winter Concert (K-5) is coming up on Friday, December 13th. Grades 3-5 will be at 9:30am and Grades K-2 will be at 10:30am in the Gym. The Gym doors will open at 9:20am. Reminder - there is no parking in the school lot.
