The Importance of Attendance: Every Day Counts!
At Franklin Academy, we believe that consistent attendance is a key factor in student success. However, we’ve traditionally faced challenges with ensuring our students are present and on time. As we continue to work together to improve, it’s important to understand the critical role that regular attendance plays in academic achievement.
Why Attendance Matters: Research shows that students who attend school regularly are more likely to succeed academically and socially. In fact, missing just two days of school per month—known as “chronic absenteeism”—can significantly impact a student’s learning. That’s 10% of the school year lost, which can cause students to fall behind in their coursework, struggle with key concepts, and even face challenges in building strong relationships with their peers.
The Impact of Tardiness: Arriving on time is just as important as being present. When students are late, they miss valuable instructional time and can disrupt the learning environment for their classmates. Over time, even small amounts of lost instructional time can add up, causing gaps in learning and making it harder for students to keep pace with their peers.
The Data Speaks:
- Students who are chronically absent (missing 10% or more of the school year) are 7.4 times more likely to fail at least one class.
- By sixth grade, absenteeism is one of the three biggest predictors of whether a student will drop out of high school.
- Good attendance habits established in elementary and middle school set the foundation for future success in high school and beyond.
How You Can Help: As parents, you play a vital role in ensuring your child attends school regularly and arrives on time. Here are a few tips:
- Set a routine: Establish consistent bedtime and morning routines to ensure your child is well-rested and ready for the day.
- Plan ahead: Schedule appointments, family trips, or other activities outside of school hours whenever possible.
- Communicate: If your child is facing challenges that make attending school difficult, please reach out to our team. We’re here to support you and find solutions that ensure your child’s success.
Attendance is more than just a number—it’s a critical part of your child’s education. By working together, we can improve our school’s attendance and, most importantly, set our students up for success. Let’s make sure they’re in class, on time, every day!

In her time with us, she has shown an unwavering commitment to both her students and our school community. Ms. Lores goes above and beyond, contributing to morning announcements and coaching our girls’ soccer team.
Her dedication doesn’t stop there—Ms. Lores has spent countless hours after school beautifying our campus, decorating the school walls with stunning artwork created by her and her students. We are incredibly grateful for all she does to inspire creativity and enrich our school environment. Thank you, Ms. Lores!
