Principal's Message
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Happy New Year to our Ranger families! As we enter into the second semester, we would like to thank our parents, guardians, and community members for supporting our students and school community. Our students have worked incredibly hard in the classroom during the first semester and are now officially ready to take on the second half of the year!
With winter weather in full effect, please be sure to have all contact information updated in Final Forms. These contacts are the first to receive information of school cancellation and delays, along with any other special announcements. In addition, please ensure that your child is dressed for winter weather, as we will take all appropriate opportunities to be outside for recess when weather allows. Gloves, hats, scarves, and coats are a must. If you are in need of any of these items, please let us know. Our community partners have donated these items to ensure our students have what they need.
The safety of our students, staff, and families is extremely important to us. We ask that you review the procedures for car rider drop off and pick up in order to keep everyone safe during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal. As always, we encourage frequent communication between you and your child's teacher. Please be sure to connect through PBIS Rewards, email, notes, and daily home folders.
Sincerely,
Mr. Rush & Mrs. Seiler

Carol's Closet
Mary and Erin, her sister, are keeping the memory of their mother, Carol Smith, alive through Carol's Closet. They collect donations through an Amazon Wish List and personal connections to provide for students in our building. This year we have received 50 pairs of pants, 50 shirts, 20 pairs of shoes, and 20 coats from their efforts. Here is Mary and her son dropping off many items last week. Thank you to Mary, Erin, and all those who donated!

How many years have you been teaching? 24 years
What is your most memorable teaching moment? There have been so many over the years but I really love it when the kids who struggle the most at a skill have the "I got it" moment and it's like it all clicks with them. I also love when former students tell me how they did on a test or show me work they are proud of. Those moments make it all worth it and remind us why we do what we do.
Who was your favorite teacher growing up? I had wonderful teachers growing up but my favorite was Sister Carolea. She was my 1st grade teacher. I remember her kindness and patience when I was learning to read from my Dick and Jane books. She also called me Sunshine, which I loved. I'll never forget her.
Favorite place to shop? One of my favorite places to shop is TSC so I can buy food for the birds, squirrels and deer that visit my yard. I also like to shop at Chewy, so I can buy food and toys to take care of my most prized possessions, my 2 cats.
Fun fact about yourself? I was struck by lightning and lived to talk about it.

Our Busy Classrooms!
Comparing and Contrasting with Mrs. Case
Students in Mrs. Case's English Development groups are focusing on the language function of comparing and contrasting. Students begin by looking at real items and photographs to understand the difference between things that are the same and things that are similar or alike. We are building our academic vocabulary while we have fun finding similarities in objects for a concrete way to compare.
Peace Path with Ms. Katie
Ms. Katie facilitated a wonderful activity using a peace path to encourage collaboration and conflict resolution amongst the students during indoor recess. Students did a great job interacting and listening to one another. She also used other students as the mediators to help facilitate conversations .
Distributive Doctors with Mrs. Sprankle
After learning about arrays, area, and the distributive property of multiplication, Mrs. Sprankle's third grade students were ready to perform surgery! The distributive doctors saved a lot of lives that day.

Mission Statement
Every Ranger, Every Reason, Every Day!
EVERY RANGER. This phrase is meant to include everyone—every student, every staff member, every graduate and every community member. All of us working together.
EVERY REASON. The primary focus of every school system is the academic achievement of all students. Our staff and, by extension, our community take on the challenge of doing even more for our students. We educate the whole child. Whatever the need, whatever the issue, whatever the REASON we are going to work together and do the best we can for each other.
EVERY DAY. Thank you to our HLSD community for making our students a priority every day, and for always pitching in to help one another
