New York State Teacher Center Mentor Academy in partnership with Learning Forward

The New York State Teacher Center Statewide Leadership Team is collaborating with Learning Forward to present the NYS Teacher Center Mentor Teacher Academy which is a customized, multi-day, blended learning experience for districts seeking to provide beginning teachers with an experienced, knowledgeable mentor. The program is for skilled teachers who are ready to mentor colleagues in their first three years in the classroom by applying a mentoring framework to support beginning teachers in growing their practice.

The scope and sequence of New York State Teacher Center Mentor Academy in partnership with Learning Forward is aligned directly to five key areas of best mentorship practices:

Effective mentoring partnerships, including developing trusting relationships between mentors and beginning teachers, communicating effectively with beginning teachers, and engaging in conversations with beginning teachers around diversity, equity, and culturally responsive teaching.
Implementing coaching cycles that appropriately differentiate coaching for beginning teachers.
Data-driven instruction that builds beginning teacher skills in analyzing student work, designing formative and summative assessments, and using data to set professional learning goals.
Lesson planning to support beginning teachers in preparing NYS Standards-aligned, culturally responsive, research-based lessons.
Establishing a supportive learning environment by building capacity to develop and implement classroom routines and procedures that maximize instructional time and create a welcoming, safe and inclusive learning environment for all students.

16 hours of summer learning and 2 to 3 hours per month during the school year (45 CTLE hours)

Synchronous Learning Dates & Times :

Foundational Experience: July 20 (Tuesday), July 22 (Thursday),

July 27 (Tuesday) ,

July 29 (Thursday) and August 3rd

Time: (9 AM - 12 PM)

Academic Year Dates:

(All Tuesdays) Sept 21, October 5, October 19, November 2*, November 16, December 7, 2021*, January 18, February 1*, February 15, March 1, March 15, April 12, May 3*, May 17, June 7, 2022**

Time: (4PM-6 PM)

This program is limited to 42 mentor teachers. 7 registrations will be awarded to teachers from high needs districts. The remaining spots cost $1,500 per person.

Cost:

Free for the 7 recipients.

All others $1,500 per participant

CTLE Hours: 45
