Mrs. Lewis' First Grade Superstars
Welcome to Earl Nance Sr. Elementary Grade 1
Welcome! I am honored to be your child’s first grade teacher. My name is Mrs. Regina Lewis, and I will be your child’s general education teacher this year. Your child will have the opportunity to meet so many wonderful staff members, who are just as excited to be a part of his/her educational journey. I hold multiple degrees along with 20+ years of teaching experience. While this is my third year at Nance, I pride myself on being a veteran in the education profession. I am most proud of being a wife, the mother of 3 adult children, and 2 amazing grandchildren.
I am excited to share a classroom with your child this year. Your child can look forward to meeting new peers, maturing their social skills, learning skills to become an advocate for themselves (socially and academically), as well as becoming more of an independent learner by the end of the academic school year. I am passionate about working with children and enjoy building genuine relationships that foster a community of learning, growth and support.
As a district, we have adopted Envision 2.0 Math and My View ELA as our core curriculum platforms. Each student will have their own login with a personalized ID and password. We will also use various apps and websites to further engage your child as he/she matriculates socially and academically (Epic Books, Myon, Freckle, Lalilo, etc…) Our curriculum is aligned with Missouri Learning Standards, and I will go into further detail with each parent as to how to understand the standards, as well as ways in which to implement the skills throughout the school year to best ensure that we can set goals with our students and monitor their progress. Our goal as a class is for each student to be on level or above level by the end of the year. I will send a monthly newsletter with my contact information, availability, and other pertinent information. This year will be an amazing year of learning for us all. To ensure that we have multiple modes of communication, let’s stay connected via email at regina.lewis@slps.org or by way of Class Dojo.
With Gratitude,
Mrs. Regina Lewis

OPEN HOUSE
We are hosting an Open House on August 15th from 4-6. This will afford you an opportunity to familiarize your family with our learning community, as well as meet all of the staff who will interact with your student on a daily basis. I look forward to meeting you and having an amazing year!!!
Reading Challenge
We are going to do a lot of reading this year. In our classroom, all students will be expected to participate in the reading challenge by meeting the goal of 100 books read this year. There are fun prizes for students who read 100 books. Reading consistently with your child will help strengthen their fluency and comprehension, as well as improve the writing skills. All students will receive a reading log that is to returned once it is completed.
CORE VALUES
Our school is a school of character. We use the acronym H.E.A.R.T. as our core values. H is for Honesty. E is for Empathy. A is for Accountability. R is for Respect. T is for Tenacity. These are all intertwined to make HEART! We will be using this as a foundation for our students. Each value is a constant reminder of the character we are aiming to build within our students to carry with them throughout their lives. NANCE HAS HEART!!
CLASS DOJO
A great way to stay engaged and follow along with what is happening in our classroom is through ClassDojo. It is the preferred tool to communicate with the teachers, as well as a great way to see what is coming up during the school year. If you have not connected with our class page, today would be a great day to do so. Click on the attached link, and you're in!
