Promoting Good Attendance All Winter Long
Every winter, bad weather — cold temperatures or rain — can present challenges to getting children to school. So do the colds, fevers and earaches that often come with the winter months.
WHAT CAN PARENTS DO?
1. Develop back up plans for getting your children to school in bad weather.
a. Check to see who can give your children a ride to school if you aren’t able to take them.
2. Keep your children healthy.
a. Maintain a regular bedtime and morning routine.
b. Ensure students eat a good breakfast every morning or check to see if your school serves breakfast.
c. Ensure your children have their vaccinations and visit their primary care physician each year.
d. Stress hand washing, particularly in the winter months. Send your children to school with a small bottle of hand sanitizer.
e. If your children seem anxious about going to school, ask teachers, school counselors and parents for advice on how to make your children feel comfortable and excited about learning.
Field Trips to the SCV Water Treatment Plant on Bouquet Canyon Road
Third grade students learn about the importance of plants in our lives while visiting the Conservatory Garden, dissecting plants, and discovering the amount of water needed for everyday items and activities.
Fourth grade students become microbiologists and will use microscopes to participate in an interactive water knowledge game and tour the water treatment plant.
Fifth grade students work in teams to construct, inspect, and operate a working scale model of the Rio Vista Treatment Plant followed by a tour of the water treatment plant.
The SCV Water Agency provides all classroom materials and transportation expenses at no cost to our school!
