Timber Talks
River Mill Elementary - February 16, 2024
Thank you Chefs for a fantastic Kindergarten and 5th Grade Family Breakfast!
Dear River Mill Families,
First, we want to be able to thank Bettina Boles, our district Social Worker, for organizing and coordinating our Mental Health Awareness Week, where we all had the opportunity to recognize and prioritize our mental health and well being. Thank you families for supporting your child to also participate in our dress up days that went along with it.
We had a blast at our Kindergarten and 5th Grade Family Breakfast, which was our final one of the year. We really enjoy this tradition and hope you do, too. Be on the lookout for future family events coming soon.
Our Read-a-Thon is right around the corner! At this time, you should have received information about our event that will take place the week of February 26th through March 3rd. Our goal is to always have students read 20 minutes a night, but during that week, we really want to see what our students can accomplish! Proceeds generated from our read-a-thon will help us purchase more books for primary student book bags as well as some for classrooms. Thank you for supporting this.
Have a great weekend and week ahead! Remember, there is no school on Monday and Friday will be a full day of school.
Check Out River Mill's New Flag!
Due to the creativity and innovation of one of our 4th grade student's, George Hamblin, we now have the honor of displaying a fantastic flag in our Victor Caamal Dzul Multipurpose room. George recently took an interest in flags and got to work. When asked about the design, he shared that he wanted the flag to be simple, have less colors, and be recognizable. He placed the RME logo in the center and surrounded it with stars. Initially, he planned to have each star represent the counties in the state of Oregon, but ultimately, he had to make the decision to remove some stars. We are so glad George thought of us when designing his flag and we are honored to display it for all to see!

Technology Needs Survey - Please Fill this out!
We know that weather can sometimes be unpredictable in Oregon and at times, students may need to access their learning from home for the day if we need to close school. In order for us to be prepared to best support you and your child, please take a couple minutes to fill out the technology survey below so we can get you connected with the right items. If you do not want your child to bring home a device, this is your chance to tell us. We plan to begin sending devices home the week of October 30th. Thank you!
Weather Changes & Clothes
If your child gets super wet at recess or has a bathroom accident, we do not have extra clothes for them. For all students, Pre-K to 5th grade, please have a spare outfit (including socks) in your child's backpack. This will help make them more comfortable while they are at school.
Birthday Celebrations at School
Student Safety - arrival & dismissal
Please remember that our doors open on Monday through Thursday at 7:20 and on Friday at 7:50. We do not have supervision until those times so please do not drop your child off sooner than that time.
When it comes to dismissal, it is imperative that you update pick up patrol. We have several after school clubs and we need plans to be accurate. In addition, we still use pick up patrol on Friday, REID days and we need plans changed in that system on that day as well. If you need any support with this, just let us know. If we have not heard from you, we use the student's default plan in Pick Up Patrol to know where to send them. Thank you for understanding.
