College Celebrations
Science and Earth Week
So much happened during Science and Earth Week at the College that it was very hard to keep up with all the activities! Science Week this year was centred around the topic of Species Survival, while Earth Week was all about Plastics vs the Planet.
There were many activites throughout the week including fire-hands, homeroom competitions, liquid nitrogen ice-cream, painting pots, numbat hunt, displays of harmful plastics in the oceans, rubbish sorting games, earth information stands, drone racing, a Bib Kahoot competition and so much more!
Dash Chrisp, Year 8 (pictured with Mr Richard Williams), was the recipient of an awesome prize for coming first in the science scavenger hunt activity.
The main turtle art piece in the Science Foyer was completed by Education Support students using recycled materials.
The Turtle for Science Week
In Week 4, with the help of teachers, the G08 students made a turtle for science week to spread awareness about the environment. The turtle is made out of shredded paper, plastic bottle caps and the base which was made out of wood. It was made from these selected materials because they are harmful to the environment.
The turtle was used to show how everyday materials can pile up and damage many ecosystems and animals living in these ecosystems. It would take a few weeks to collect these materials, but it shows how much a group of people can use over a short period of time. We like to congratulate all those who were involved in this project and hopefully spread more awareness about the environment and the impact of the materials used.

Homeroom Spaghetti Tower Challenge
The Spaghetti Tower Challenge took place on 2 August during extended Homeroom. The McAuley and Siena Homerooms competed against each other to build the biggest tower in 30 minutes using spaghetti and marshmallows.
There were some fantastic feats of engineering on display, with the final results being very close. McAuley 4 were the overall winners, with a 123 cm tower. Siena 5 were the highest Siena House with a 106 cm tower.

Japanese Student Visit
On Wednesday 14 August, the Japanese students came to GO8 for Thomas and Brodie’s presentation and for their own presentation. Thomas and Brodie’s presentation was about Australia. They talked about the states, landmarks, places, and animals. They also talked about the seasons.
The Japanese students’ presentation was about music in Japan. They presented two different types of music: modern and traditional. The traditional music contained instruments such as Nohgaku and Wagaku. While Japanese modern music has bands like First Tour, Major Break, and Start.

Fantastic Foods: Year 10 High Teas and the Year 11 Big Bake Off
Big Bake Off!
On Wednesday 14 August our Year 11 Food Science students held a Big Bake Off! It was a huge success, and the students did an amazing job with their cakes. We had staff and students help to judge, which was wonderful to see.
Below are the cakes that the students presented for the judges.
Thank you to our talented students and everyone who supported this event.
High Tea
In the same week the Year 10's created some amazing High Tea treats.
The students had a fantastic time selecting and preparing their High Tea treats. They were guided on how to manage their time over several periods to ensure their creations were of a high standard. Additionally, they learned how to work efficiently in a production line to package their treats. It was heartwarming to see students who had finished early helping their peers.

Year 10 Dance
The Year 10 Dance is one of the most anticipated events on the Year 10 calendar and the night did not disappoint. All of the students dressed to impress and danced the night away.
The evening was superbly hosted by Year 10 students (Charlotte Silva, Jordan Escalante, Dakota Richards-Bannister and Jacob Underwood) and featured Frayne Alumni DJ Aidan Formston & dance instructor Brenda Campbell. They were supported by the impressive judging team.
With a fantastic group of Year 11 students running the Arts Courtyard food/beverage bar for the duration of the evening, the Year 10 students had a wonderful space to relax and rest their feet between dances. The evening was the culmination of a 5 week dance program held in PE classes.

LifeLink 25 Year Celebration
On 21 August, two of our Year 6 students and Mr Dalton attended the 25 Year Celebration of LifeLink evening. This is what the students had to say:
The 25 years of celebration of LifeLink night was amazing. The liturgy was a great way to start the night off. The light show that was projected was so cool! We saw cool pictures from other students from other schools. After the awesome light show we had really nice food and drinks. The meat pies were the best. Overall, the night was amazing.

Highly Strung and Sung Performance
The Highly Strung and Sung performance event on 22 August was a wonderful display of student achievement. From our very youngest Frayne musicians to our oldest, the audience were treated to an extraordinary evening of String and Choral music performed by our talented students from across our College.
There are numerous staff that support this evening in some capacity that I need to acknowledge. Firstly, a huge thank you to all music tutors/ staff, directors and piano accompanists who put many hours into their ensembles to ensure a successful performance. I'd like to express my gratitude to Mark Antulov, Jessica Bouwman, Sabrina D' Cruze, Sarah Quin, Pauline Bourke and Matthew Hall, for their tireless support of the Arts at Frayne. Also, Alan Dawson, our music and audiovisual technician guru, and Lee Barker and Kostya Daylight for their assistance in the setup of the hall.
Finally, the night was made all that more special with food and beverages supplied by the wonderful team from the Friends of Frayne who provided snacks for all the students as well as close to 160 adults.
To all performers, 111 of you, thank you for sharing your talents with the Frayne community and making it such a beautiful display of your musical journey.
Mr Ash Baker
Coordinator of instrumental and Choral Programs
Book Week
Book Week was fantastic across both campuses this year with everyone truly embracing the concept that Reading is Magic! Thanks go out to everyone who made it a success, especially our very own library staff.
It has become a bit of a Frayne tradition to have a Year 6 bookmark competition during Book Week and this years competition was excellent. Congratulations to the 2024 winner, Dominic Newman. Well done! The Runner up was Faith Lim and two special mentions go to Kyra Lee and Elsha Freeth. Thank you for making this years’ competition so extra special. You are very talented!

Languages Week
Cultural Day
On Wednesday 28 August, some of our students on the Duncan Campus wore clothes from their respective cultures. These outfits come in many different sizes and shapes, like the Indian dress called a Sari.
We have Languages Week because we want to celebrate all different kinds of cultures from all over the globe. From places in Europe, Asia, or South America, wherever you’re from, we like to be an inclusive country/school and show how different each culture is but we are all united as Australians.
Musical Performances
On the same day, at Recess and Lunch there were music performances. At Recess a group of music professionals, who played taiko drums and the fue, came down to perform for the students and teachers.
During lunch, a select group of students played musical instruments like the piano and violin. All of these performances were to express different cultures, but specifically the Japanese band.

The Junior School students engaged in various exciting activities during Languages Week to immerse them in both the Japanese and Italian languages and cultures. The students had fun playing games like Paper Sumo, Kendama, Tombola and Bocce. They also participated in interactive and collaborative quizzes using Kahoot and Quizlet Live.

Father's Day
This year's Father’s Day was a memorable event for the 400+ group of very appreciative Senior School parents and students.
Beginning with music provided by the String Quartet, the tone was set for a meaningful and touching Liturgy. Supported by the Jazz Band, the breakfast was lovely. The food, beautifully presented by the Hospitality Team, was delicious and showcased the talents of our staff in providing restaurant quality catering. A wonderful atmosphere was created at both the Liturgy and the breakfast.
The highlight, though, were the heartfelt and honest reflections on fatherhood by Ethan Fair, Abbey Richards-Scully, Woojin Song and Tehya Surin. Their words were a tribute to both their fathers and the importance of fathers in the lives of their children. Their reflections reminded me of the following quote:
"Dads are most ordinary men turned by love into heroes, adventurers, storytellers, and singers of song."
Thanks go to all staff and our Friends of Frayne volunteers who contributed to the day, your support is what makes these events so special. I would also like to thank the many students who gave of their time to assist, which is a lovely reflection of the generosity of spirit within our community.
The Father’s Day Liturgy and Breakfast was a wonderful opportunity for grandfathers, fathers and their children joined in celebration of faith, family, and community.

Deputy Principal Pastoral Care and Community
Premier’s Reading Challenge
Premier Roger Cook invited the students of WA to take up the challenge of reading at least 12 books over a 4-month period, starting 6 May and concluding on 6 September.
Our students on the Balmoral campus rose to the challenge, with many reading the number of books well into the double digits and some even getting into triple digits.
The Premier’s Reading Challenge is a literacy engagement program established in 2022 to:
• encourage students to read more books
• enjoy reading
• improve literacy levels.
The students who participated were eligible to receive a weekly prize and I am happy to report that the two lucky winners were Florence Bong (Year 4) and Lachlan Cikarela (Year 6).
Well done to all the students who participated and hopefully you enjoyed the opportunity to read for leisure.
Mrs Cathy Armstrong
Assistant Head of Junior School
Dismantle Bike Program
On Monday 2 September, the College welcomed Nicholas Vuckovich, Deputy Principal at Lathlain Primary to campus. He was greeted by students from Year 9 and 10 who have participated in the specialised BikeRescue program. The students discussed how the program has helped them to develop bike restoration knowledge and skills, confidence and teamwork through completely dismantling and rebuilding two bikes. Some of the restored bikes were donated to Lathlain Primary for their new bike library program to assist disadvantaged students to learn to ride. Congratulations to all of the students involved!

Bursaries for Aspiring Dancers
We believe that talent knows no boundaries, and that's why we offer bursaries to elite dancers who have the potential to pursue a dance career but may face financial challenges. At YBWA, we are committed to helping young dancers turn their dreams into reality.
Tailored Training for Every Level
Whether your students are beginners or have prior dance experience, we provide individualized tuition to match their unique skill level and abilities. Our goal is to nurture each student throughout their journey with YBWA, helping them reach their full potential.
We are a talent-driven organization located in Burswood, dedicated to welcoming young individuals who exhibit a strong aptitude for dance and a deep passion for making it their career. Some of our students move on to our full-time course, which runs from 8.30am to 4.30pm, five days a week, while others thrive in our after-school program, which meets three afternoons a week from 4.30pm to 7.00pm, with half-day sessions on Saturdays.

Season starts October 10
Each Tri-Tag hub will run for 10 weeks and cost $10 per night.

RugbyWA are happy to offer introductory sessions in the lead up to the Tri-Tag hub launches, however schools and their students are also welcome to come along and play on the days with no prior experience.
