FirstView app helps families keep up with bus travel
Many CCSD 89 families can now track their student’s bus trips to and from school through the free FirstView busing app. Parents can download the FirstView app, which will show an estimated number of minutes until the bus will arrive at a bus stop and when buses arrive at school. Families should search for “FirstView” on the app store. (Please note: there is also a “FirstView 1.0” app that will not show CCSD 89 bus routes.)
The app only works for students riding First Student buses. It is not available for special education (Hopewell) transportation, early or late buses, or student field trips.

Parents needed to review district’s pre-approved food list
The district is looking for at least one family member from each CCSD 89 school to review the district’s pre-approved food list. This is a list of safe classroom foods that is used anytime snacks are handed out in school. Anyone interested in reviewing this list should contact CCSD 89 district nurse Araceli Orozco at aorozco@ccsd89.org or (630) 545-3260.
Families can find menus, nutrition info online
Lunch menus for all CCSD 89 schools are available using the links at www.ccsd89.org/lunch Once you have opened a lunch calendar, clicking on any menu item will pull up nutritional information.
District is hiring substitute nurses
CCSD 89 is looking to expand our pool of substitute nurses. With help from the district nurse and school principal, a substitute nurse ensures services are provided to maximize health in the school. Current Illinois RN license and certification in CPR/AED required. To find out more, or apply, go to: https://bit.ly/3yvmFic

The CCSD 89 Student-Parent Handbook is available online at www.ccsd89.org/handbook All families must return the Handbook Acknowledgement Form, indicating you have reviewed the 2024-25 Handbook. If you need a form, you can print one here: https://bit.ly/46WMTql
If you have more than one student in the district, you must return a form for each student.

Reminder: Phones, smartwatches should be off and out of sight at school
Students have been receiving and sending messages from family and friends during the school day. These messages disrupt the learning environment for your child, their classmates, and the teacher. If you need to reach your child during the day, please contact the main office.
Cell phones, smartwatches, and other electronic devices must be kept out of sight in a backpack, purse, or locker during the school day. If a student violates these rules, the device will be confiscated and there may be disciplinary action.
Please have a conversation at home about the appropriate use of technology at school and why it is important that students can focus on their learning. More information is available on page 42 of the Student/Parent Handbook, CCSD 89 Board of Education Policy 7:192 – Student Use of Mobile Telecommunication Devices, and Board Regulation 7:192-R.
Remind your child to treat district technology devices with care
Families should have a conversation at home about the importance of appropriately using the district's technology devices. Appropriate use includes: carrying the device carefully, keeping liquids away, and not leaving devices in areas with extreme heat or cold. The district will charge families for replacement or repair of district technology devices. The full list of costs is available here: www.ccsd89.org/techdamage
CCSD 89 families that need support for iPad or Chromebook issues should use the district’s online help system. Enter your contact information and some details about the problem at: https://bit.ly/89techsupport
Tips for a productive parent-teacher conference
Fall conferences will be held in the evening on Thursday, October 10, and during the day on Friday, October 11. More information will be shared about scheduling time with your student’s teacher closer to the conference dates. If you are looking for ideas on preparing for conferences or sample questions to ask, Colorín Colorado has created some helpful guides. English Español ردو हिन्दी
Families can link MySchoolBucks, PowerSchool accounts
Families can now link their MySchoolBucks account to their PowerSchool account. MySchoolBucks is used to pay for various school items, including lunch and fees. Families that used MySchoolBucks last year may have already linked their accounts. While you can log in to MySchoolBucks separately, linking the account with PowerSchool provides a single sign-on that many users find convenient. Learn more: https://bit.ly/3Mf7PiV
Know which health forms your student needs
Students entering preschool, kindergarten or sixth grade, as well as students who are new to CCSD 89, must have a current certificate of child health exam and updated immunization record on file. All Illinois children entering kindergarten, second, and sixth grades are required to have a dental exam. An eye exam is required for children enrolling in kindergarten and students new to Illinois. Additionally, any Glen Crest students who want to try out for athletics have a pre-participation form filled out by a doctor. Go to the CCSD 89 health page for forms, resources, and more information: www.ccsd89.org/health

Articles of clothing, boots, tennis shoes, backpacks and lunch boxes should be marked with the child’s name and grade or room number so they may be returned if lost. Parents are encouraged to occasionally go through the lost-and-found.
