A Word From Principal Rosenberg
Welcome Banks' Families to the 2024-2025 School Year!
We are excited to see all our returning students and are glad to report that over 45 new families have joined our school! This is the first year that we are having 6th grade and are happy to welcome our 6th grade teachers, Mrs. Vaughan and Mr. Vironet. Mrs. Vaughan will be teaching math and science, while Mr. Vironet will be teaching English Language Arts and Social Studies. Ms. Garcia returns as our Art teacher and Dr. Brown rounds out our team with Band and Orchestra. We are using a modified middle school schedule so the students will be prepared when they transition to seventh grade next year.
Our K-5 teachers have hit the ground running. We have new schedules in place and are once again offering library time, counseling, art for K-5, band or orchestra for 4th and 5th grade, and GATE pull-outs for qualified students. Extracurricular sports will be starting next month - watch for more information to be sent out. Our teachers primarily use Class Do-Jo to communicate with parents, so if you haven't signed up with your child's teacher, please do so soon.
A second inclusive pre-school classroom is still in the works. More information will be forthcoming as it becomes available.
We'd like to invite you to our Open House and Title 1 Parent Meeting on Tuesday, August 27th, 5:00-6:00 p.m. We hope you can make it!
Let's make it a great year!
Respectfully,
Principal, Banks Elementary School

Counselor's Corner
Ms. Hult, School Counselor
Hello, my name is Ashley Hult and this my ninth year as Counselor at Banks. Before earning my master’s degree in School Counseling, I taught middle school Language Arts. I was born & raised in Tucson & attended southwest side TUSD schools. After graduating from the U of A in 2009, I taught in Buckeye, Az & lived in Hawaii. I am so proud to support students in my very own neighborhood. I have a 14-year-old daughter who also attended Banks & started high school this year! I absolutely love my community, so seeing students while I’m out walking my dog Maggie makes me so happy! I have the best job in the world and I cannot wait to help our students grow in their personal, social, and academic journeys this year!
As School Counselor & Family-Community Liaison, I am here to support all the wonderful students and families at Banks! All students attend counseling class with me. I also support students through individual and small group counseling.. I am available to provide consultation services, family support & resource help, as well as plan 504 coordination, and special events like STEM night and Career Week!
Please consider using your voice as a member of our Family Engagement Team or PTO! If you need support for your child’s social-emotional needs or could use some resources, please reach out to me at any time. We have an emergency food & clothing bank at Banks, but I can also assist you in getting in touch with more resources if needed—We are a Bobcat Family!
School Counseling Lessons
Character Strong Kindness Kickoff & Respect
During the month of August, we will focus on getting to know the Counselor and students will develop an understanding of my role at school and how I can help. They will practice identifying different problems that might arise and sort out the size of the problem. They will learn about problems they can solve on their own and those that need help from an adult.
We will also introduce Restorative Circles. We use Restorative Circles both as a proactive approach to minimizing conflicts and also as a process to restore peace and rectify any harm done after a conflict occurs. Students will begin to develop the social skills necessary for participating in restorative circles. This month, we will focus on developing a sense of belonging.

Curriculum Updates
Mrs. Stevens, Curriculum Service Provider
Hello Bobcat Families!
Welcome Back Bobcats! It has been so good to see our students and families starting the new school year at Banks. I have seen some new faces along with many familiar ones. I am excited for this year. Students worked very hard last year to grow and improve their academic skills. We are ready to continue on this positive path trending upward.
Our Kindergarten through 3rd grade students will be completing the DIBELS reading assessment starting August 19th. This diagnostic will assess students in Phonemic Awareness, Letter Sound Fluency, Decoding, Word Reading, Reading Fluency and Comprehension. Each grade level focuses on specific areas. Your child’s teacher will go over your child’s results at Parent Teacher Conferences in September.
Students Kindergarten through 6th grade will also complete an ELA(Reading) and Math diagnostic to help us learn what skills students have mastered and those that may need to be retaught or targeted.
I am looking forward to a positive & productive year of working with families, students, and teachers!
Proud to be a part of this Bobcat Community! Rachel Stevens, Banks CSP
