Parent Teacher Conferences are quickly approaching! Parent Teacher Conferences will take place on Thursday, October 13 and Wednesday, October 19th from 3:00-7:00 pm. Conferences are being held in-person and in a virtual format. Please look for a sign up to come home from your child's teacher to book a time slot! We are excited to share with you your child's progress thus far, celebrate their successes, and partner with you in their educational journey. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child's teacher directly.

Students and Families, we are excited to welcome you to Trunk or Treat at Slate Ridge!

Trunk or Treat will take place on Thursday, October 27th at Slate Ridge Elementary School from 4:30-6:30pm. Trunk or Treat will take place rain or shine and costumes are optional. Kona Ice will be available for purchase. We can't wait to see you there!

At Slate Ridge, we take time bi-weekly on Monday mornings to come together as a whole school community for a Rise Assembly. As Toucans, we strive to RISE above! During the bi-weekly Rise Assemblies, students engage in fun chants, review the recess incentive (this month we are focusing on conflict resolution), and learn about our five Portrait of a Graduate Competencies. During the Rise Assemblies, students are also recognized for whole class and individual accomplishments.

A weekly Reading Log is also coming home with your child on Monday's. If your child completes their weekly reading log, they will enter it into a basket for a chance to have their Reading Log pulled during the Rise Assembly for a chance to play Plinko!

As part of our building-wide initiative to encourage reading at home, your child will be bringing home a weekly reading log. The weekly reading log will come home on Monday's and will have four nightly boxes to complete before turning in the reading log on Friday. As an incentive, if your child completes their weekly reading log and brings it back to school on Friday, they can enter their reading log into a bucket for a chance to have their log drawn at the bi-weekly Monday morning RISE Assembly. If their reading log is drawn, they will get to come on stage and play Plinko! Prizes vary from RISE Money to spend at the School Store, restaurant coupons, or free books! While this reading log is not mandatory, we are hoping to encourage reading beyond the school building. If you need support with books to read at home, please contact your child's teacher directly. Parents of bus riders: We need your help!

Please encourage your children to continue their RISE (respectful, responsible, and ready) behavior on the school bus. We are asking for your support in having conversations with your children about the important responsibility of our drivers to keep children safe while transporting them to and from school. Students are expected to be seated and using an "inside"/'level 2" voice while riding the bus.

Parents/Guardians are required to report all absences for their child to the school office the day the child is absent. Please call the office at 614-501-5500 and speak to the secretary or leave a message, stating your child’s first AND last name, your name, and the reason for the absence. The school office must be notified of your child’s absence within two hours of the start of the school day. To excuse an absence, the guardian must provide a written or emailed parent note to excuse up to ten (10) absences per school year. The 10 excuse notes can be used for full-day absences, early dismissals and late arrivals. If you have any questions regarding attendance, please call the office.

Students who arrive to school after 8:10 am are considered tardy. Those students will need to be brought into the office through the main front doors by a parent/guardian and signed in.

We are collecting new socks throughout the month of October (any color or size) to donate to a local shelter. Our school goal is to collect 500 pairs of socks. Last year we collected 659 pairs! If able, bring in a new pair of socks to school and add them to the sock basket in the office. If we meet our building goal, we will have a crazy sock day at the end of the month.
