Excellence in Learning Success for All
Spartan Science
Who knew Alka-Seltzer could teach us so much about science AND give us bubbles?! In the lab, we put reaction rates to the test by dropping those fizzy tablets into water at different temperatures, stirred or standing, and surface areas. Crushed it (literally)!
Our Grade 7 students were tasked with designing a home that was both energy efficient and eco friendly. The focus was around controlling heat transfer. Warm in the winter and cool for the summer! Application of passive solar heating, active solar heating, different types of insulation and the calculations of R-values, use of color and different materials, conduction, convection, radiation , minimizing heat loss and other innovations such as geothermal energy. The students built models to showcase and demonstrate their incredible creativity and ingenuity. We have future home designers and builders amongst us. Spartans lead the Way . . . All the Way!

Excellence in Well- Being
Kindness is the easy choice. When we choose kindness, doors open. When we choose kindness, spirits are lifted. When we choose kindness, smiles are produced. When we choose kindness, individuals are noticed. When we choose kindness, misdeeds are forgiven. When we choose kindness, the deaf can hear. When we choose kindness, the blind can see. When we choose kindness, we feel good. When we choose kindness, virtue grows. When we choose kindness, things change. When we choose kindness, people learn. When we choose kindness, people remember. Kindness is the easy choice. Spartans choose kindness.
Adulting 101 Fair
New Norway School hosted the Adulting 101 Fair, organized by the BRSD Mental Health Capacity Building Program. Various community partners joined us with the goal of helping our students from grades 9 through to grade 12 prepare for life beyond high school. Students learned about the programs offered by Family Community Social Services. They learned about insurance and registration with Western Financial. They learned about the recreation options with the City of Camrose. Students learned about the Camrose Library programs and resources available. Careers counselors were on hand to help guide students with their future plans. Coldwell Realty shared information from buying homes to the finances of living arrangements while attending university. Students learned about how Victim Services can be accessed and how they can help. They even learned how to do laundry! Thank you to all that attended and made this event a huge success!

Spartan Athletics
Senior's Night - Basketball
Senior’s Night is always bittersweet. We are excited to honour and recognize the student-athletes' sacrifices, dedication, commitment, and accomplishments but it also is a time to say goodbye to our Grade 12s. Seniors, thank you for representing our school so well all these years. Some have repped our school in basketball since mini-dunkers in elementary, for 6-7 years!
Thank you for being great role models for our young Spartans! Thank you for balancing your academics, chores, part time jobs, a social life and your commitment to our basketball program. Thank you for continuing the Spartan Tradition and showing what Excellence in Athletics looks like, sounds like and feels like! And remember , Once a Spartan, always a Spartan. We would also like to thank those who pay your fees, get you up and running in the morning, consoles when you are down, your biggest cheerleaders, your biggest fans, get some of you to from practices . . . your families, - parents, siblings, guardians and grandparents . Thank you all for all of your support over the years! Spartan Basketball Tradition Continues. The Legacy Builds.
Junior High Basketball Teams Find Success at the Regional Championships
We were joined by our good friends from Hay Lakes and Bashaw on our Annual Mountain Ski Trip. This year we were blessed with the milky smooth slopes of Marmot Basin, just outside of Jasper. As we snow ride, skiing or snowboarding, we leave tracks behind. Those tracks are our unique DNA. Those DNA trails show who we are, our strengths and weaknesses, our past, or present, our future, our decision making, our confidence, our control or lack thereof , they show our hopes and fears and they show our accomplishments. If you allow it, these experiences can change you. They can build you, they can make you richer. They can strengthen your connection and appreciation of the outdoors. Sharing these experiences with others increases your connection with the human collective spirit. New friendships are woven, old friendships are deepened. It's who we are, it's who we are meant to be. And you thought it was just another field trip! Big thank you to the staff and parents that supervised, guided , cooked, and rode alongside. Thank you to BiWest Translines for always safely and comfortably transporting us. If you didn’t come with us this year, you will be one year older when you do!
Smiles. Smiles, Smiles, Smiles, . . . So. Many. Smiles. Look at how nice they are. As a Spartan, you can immediately smile when you hit the slopes. You don’t have to worry, smiles will always await on any Spartan Snow Riding Trip. You can do whatever you want with your smiles. You can share your smiles with others or you can soak up smiles from others. You can smile on the chair lift or you can smile on the t-bar. You can smile when you are up. You can smile when you are down. You can smile when you are riding fast , you can smile when you are riding nice, and slow. You can smile so bright that you may be able to see your smiles in other people's goggles. Thank you staff and parents for your smiles on the trip and helping bring out the smiles of our students. Thank you Canyon Ski Resort for your smiles and creating a place where it is impossible not to smile. If you did not smile with us on the hill this year, you will be one year older when you do. This is the Way, the Spartan Way.

I’d like to acknowledge that we are on Treaty 6 territory, a traditional meeting grounds, gathering place, and travelling route to the Cree, Saulteaux, Blackfoot, Métis, Dene and Nakota Sioux. We acknowledge all the many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit whose footsteps have marked these lands for centuries.
