Sundays From The Mesa # 7
September 23rd - 27th
Principal's Message
Dear Alta Mesa Families,
Alta Mesa is hosting this week's K-5 Cross Country meet on Thursday, September 26th. The meet will start at 3. Have dinner taken care for you that evening from Bantam Kitchen and support our Alta Mesa Booster's Club. Check out the flyer below.
Our 5th Graders are headed to Lassen National Park on Tuesday for a science field trip around Manzanita Lake. It should be a beautiful day up there!
There are only 2 weeks left of our Riffle Raffle fundraiser. All tickets (sold and unsold) must be returned by Friday, Oct 4th. All the funds raised go directly back to your child's classroom.
As we approach October, I wanted to let you know about a couple of events coming up. On Tuesday, October 1st we will have a Game Night in the cafeteria. Come on out between 5:30-7, grab a slice of pizza and play some games. Our Fall Carnival will be on Friday, October 25 from 5-7. There will be booths in the gym and it will be a great evening of fun.
Finally, many students are bringing toys and various playing cards from home. I am encouraging you to have a conversation with your child about keeping those items at home unless it is a share day in class. Thank you for your support in this.
Have a great rest of your Sunday! Can't wait to start another wonderful week at Alta Mesa!

Let's Walk to School Alta Mesa!
Alta Mesa is creating a Walking School Bus for our students. Every morning, a supervised group will pick up students from the neighborhood & walk to school.
Studies show that students who are healthy, awake and alert perform better at school. By walking in the morning, your student will be more attentive and ready to learn when they arrive at school. Physical activity also improves attention, memory skills, and brain health.
1) Stay healthy
Walking to school is a great form of exercise for your child.
2) It's fun and builds friendships
Walking groups can help form bonds that allow students to feel connected to other students.
3) It helps children learn
After a morning walk, they will arrive at school feeling refreshed, happy and ready to start their day.
4) Improves confidence
Walking to school teaches them road safety, basic navigation skills, and helps them feel more confident.
If you are interested in participating in the AM Walking School Bus please complete the SURVEY. To learn more about this opportunity, contact me at 530.780.6820 or email cgiacomelli@shastacoe.org

LEADERIZE Alta Mesa
We are continuing to focus on Habit #1: Be Proactive this month. We are working with our students to use words like "I can" instead of "I can't" and "I will" instead of "I have to". Our students are learning to be in charge of their choices. Many have been recognized on the Monday message for displaying this habit.
4th and 5th Grade Student Lighthouse Team
The 4th and 5th Grade Student Lighthouse Team is a special group of kids who learn skills on becoming a leader. They will learn how to create, plan, and implement idea for our school. Some examples would be hosting rallies and helping out in various leadership roles around campus such as lunch leaders, reader leaders, recess leaders, etc.
Applications will be going home on September 25th and must be returned by October 3rd. Please see the flyer below for more information.
