The Generative Artificial Intelligence committee would like to share the link to the AI in Higher Education: Faculty & Staff Guide. The results from their exit poll showed that many faculty were interested in more specific information related to AI and prompt engineering. Please view the link below during your work over the summer, where you have access to the wealth of information available to support your course development.

ICYMI: April's Lunch & Learn Recording - Hone Your Verbal Communication Skills
The Center welcomed Sydney Duncombe, Ph.D., to the Providence campus on Friday, April 5th. Dr. Duncombe gave a lecture workshop on best practices of how to communicate complex discussion topics to any audience.
Zero Textbook Cost & Open Educational Resources
John Varlaro, Ph.D., SPHR, GPH, Professor, College of Business, was joined by Open Access Teaching Case Journal (OATCJ) and Conestoga College colleagues Kimberlee Carter, BE.d., MA and Fatih Yegul, Ph.D., in this workshop that provided attendees with information on open access (OA) and open educational resource (OER) case studies. They discussed the differences between OER / OA case materials and their implications for publishing and teaching. In addition, attendees learned about the Open Access Teaching Case Journal (OATCJ), including publication expectations and OATCJ case adoption for the classroom.

2025 Cultural Life Speaker Call for Nominations
The Cultural Life Series Committee welcomes nominations for future speakers!
Nominated speakers should enhance and add to what students receive in the classroom and ideally reach across disciplines.
JWU began offering the Cultural Life Program in the early 1990s to create meaningful learning opportunities for students outside the classroom, to expand students' knowledge of the world and directly engage the Johnson & Wales community in important global social issues. These educational events have brought renowned novelists, scientists, journalists, activists, and scholars to JWU, both to present topics related to the human experience and to engage with students and faculty across multiple disciplines.
Previous speakers include: Claire Wardle (2024); Chef Sean Sherman (2023); Paul Piff, PhD (2022); Rachel Herz, PhD (2021), Helene Wecker (2016), Seung Chan Lim (2015), and Ellen Kushner (2013).

Deadline for proposal submission is May 1, 2024
College and university faculty and practitioners from all disciplines are invited to submit proposals on topics of innovative pedagogical strategies. Presentations that center around ideas such as artificial Intelligence, augmented reality, virtual reality, and other horizon technologies in higher education are highly encouraged.
Session formats include 50-minute interactive learning sessions, panels, or roundtable presentations, and 20-minute academic research sessions. Posters will also be considered.
The Mission of ISETL is to provide opportunities to share evidence-based instructional practices and research related to teaching and learning in higher education in a collegial, interactive environment that leads to positive changes in teaching practice.
