PBMS Vision
PBMS strives to be a place where students want to come to school, parents want to send their children and staff want to come to work.
Message from the Principal
The school year is in full swing with tutoring and clubs starting. All students are invited to participate. No sign-ups are needed for either but passes are required for lunchtime activities in the 100/200 building. Check out this link for details on both: TUTORING & CLUBS.
Our first progress report (P1) will be sent home with students this week. Parents should also get an email with the report. If you have any questions about individual classroom grades, please reach out to the teacher. If you have a concern about your child's overall progress, please contact your child's counselor. Counselors will be scheduling parent conferences for students with 2 or more Fs. The conference date is Thursday, October 10 from 3:00-5:30.

Exciting news is buzzing around PBMS! The 2024 San Diego County Scripps Regional Spelling Bee is back and open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. Please see Mrs. Velasco in Room 203 for more information. Students may also add themselves to the Bee Google Classroom to see more up to date information, including dates and deadlines. FOPBSS Annual Giving Campaign: Every year, our parent/teacher organization provides funds to benefit our students with teacher classroom grants, sports equipment and programing such as IB, Mandarin Immersion, Art and Music. The funds are made possible through fundraisers and the Annual Giving Campaign. This year, the goal is $30K or $15/ student. It's easy to donate a one time amount or a monthly pledge. ANY amount makes a difference. Please click on the FLYER for the link to donate. So far, over $15,000 has been raised.
Attendance: There is a strong link between attendance and school success. In addition, schools only receive funding when students are at school. PBMS wants to do better and set goals to improve our attendance this year. We have 2 benchmarks:
Average Daily Attendance: students that are present on a daily basis. PBMS is ranked 11th out of 24 middle schools with a rate of 93.96%. Our goal for 24-25 is 95% which would put us in 5th place. To help with this goal, please be sure to report all absences to the school.
Chronically Absent: when a student misses 10% or more of the school days they are enrolled in during a school year. Last year, 15% of our students were chronically absent. We would like to decrease that number to 10%. Please reach out to your child's counselor if you would like help with this.
Safety Drills: PBMS cycles through different safety drills to prepare staff & students in the event of an emergency. In August, we practiced a Fire Drill. Tomorrow, September 27 at 9:00am we will practice a Lock Down Drill. Prior to the drill, we will share the process and what to do in different situations because a lock down is used any time it is safer to keep students inside. The key is for students to remain calm, quiet and listen to the adults providing directions. The next drill we practice is for Earthquakes as part of the Statewide Great California Shakeout on Thursday, October 17 at 10:17am.
PB Locals: The community surf team starts practice on Monday, September 30. Please click on this link for contact information to participate. PB Locals

The federal and state governments provide extra funding for students who may have additional needs. The allocation is determined by data collected in the LCFF form. This year, we funded a 3rd counselor! You can find access to the form in PowerSchool Parent Portal - but NOT using the APP (Sorry). Here is a link for more information LCFF FORM You can also reach out to Ms. Agejas at magejaschicharro@sandi.net for help. Thank you!
