A Message from the Principal
Hello Cougar Families!!!
What a week at Geneva Heights! We began with a once in a lifetime event of a total Solar Eclipse and the clouds broke just enough to witness this phenomena. Our Cougars were excited to experience this eclipse and truly lived in the moment. They screamed with excitement as the eclipse was happening and enjoyed every second of what they saw. I am extremely proud of how they treated this experience. Kudos to our teachers, PTA, and staff for building up the experience. Thank you to all our room parents who came out and helped with monitoring our Cougars during the event. Take a look at a few of the great photos taken during Monday's experience.
We completed our first round of STAAR testing with Reading for our 3rd through 5th graders and this Thursday, we will continue with 5th grade Science. As I spoke to our 3-5 Cougars on Wednesday, I shared with them that the STAAR is a minute part of their academic journey and in no way is indicative of who they are and what they will become. It was my goal to ease the anxiety they may be feeling as these state assessments are conducted. Yes, we want them to perform well as a metric to help GH become stronger with instruction but the STAAR does nothing to tell THEIR story about their hobbies, interests, and who they are as children outside of school. At Geneva Heights, our vision is to create world changers through their actions and not test scores.
Have a wonderful week and I hope to see everyone today at the Fun Run at Tietze Park from 1-3 pm.
Your Proud Principal of Geneva Heights Elementary,
Israel Verver, Jr.
