Summer Reading Program Planning: Performer Discussion
Date: Tuesday, January 28

Learn about available resources for discovering and contacting performers for your Summer Reading Program. We'll discuss how to book performers and arrange block booking/group rates among neighboring libraries. 90 minutes will be reserved for participants to recommend and discuss performers and arrange potential block booking opportunities.
2020 Learning Grant Applications Available
The 2020 Learning Grant application and associated materials are now available at http://www.olis.ri.gov/grants/lori/2020/application.php
Three workshops have been scheduled to assist with developing a grant project and completing the grant application.

If you are unable to attend a workshop, please contact either Danielle Margarida at danielle.margarida@olis.ri.gov or Donna DiMichele at donna.dimichele@olis.ri.gov before December 20 to schedule a time to discuss the grant application.
PrepareRI College Internship Program
The PrepareRI College Internship Program provides first generation CCRI, RIC and URI college students on track to graduate in May 2021 with paid summer work-based internships connecting higher education learning with career opportunities in their college majors.
Skills for Rhode Island’s Future is recruiting full-time, first-generation college students who are interested in a paid summer work-based learning internship.
To be considered, college students must:
- Identify as: A first-generation college student on track to graduate in May 2021 from CCRI, RIC or URI.
- Apply by December 23, 2019: Complete the online application. Application period is November 11, – December 23, 2019.
- Orientation: Attend a mandatory orientation on January 7 or January 8, 2020.
- Work-Readiness Bootcamp: Attend a 40-hour work-readiness bootcamp from May 18 – May 22, 2020.
- 150 Hours of Work: Work a minimum of 150 hours and maximum of 480 hours.

Whether preparing to apply for a grant, write a long-range plan, or plan a new library program, assessing the community's needs is an essential step in ensuring that whatever project you are developing is meaningful for the community you serve. Join us in an exploration of the various tools and techniques that are available to learn about your community. This will be a hands-on session.

Mock Newbery Discussion #2
We’ll continue our discussion of the best children’s books of 2019. Please read at least half the books on the second discussion list. Voting for a Rhode Island winner and honor books will take place on January 14, 2020 using the balloting procedures of the real Newbery committee. Join fellow young adult librarians to share your most impactful programs and discuss why some programs just don't seem to meet our goals or engage our teens.
