The Compass
"Unlock the Treasure in Every Child" - July 8, 2024
Welcome to the Crew!
Ms.Ashley Preziosa - 4th Grade
Ms. Joe-ann Robinson-Tiffin - Kindergarten
My name is Joe-ann Robinson-Tiffin and I have been teaching full-time since 2012. Prior to moving to North Carolina I have lived in the UK and the Bahamas. I graduated from University of Cumbria with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education, having completed a BA honours degree in Performing Arts. Before returning to Buckhorn Creek to teach, I taught Year 1 children at a private preparatory school in the Bahamas covering key subjects such as phonics, writing, reading and math. I am so excited to be rejoining the amazing team at Buckhorn Creek and be a part of the community again.
Ms. Janae Franklin - Spec. Ed Instructional Assistant
My name is Janae Franklin, and I am an adamant believer that every child deserves a champion—an educator who will never give up on them and will strive for them to be the best they can be. I have always had a passion for educating the youth. I am originally from Illinois but have decided to make North Carolina my new home. I graduated from Northern Illinois University with a degree in Visual Arts. Before joining the Buckhorn Creek Elementary School staff, I was a Special Education Childcare Assistant at Durkin Park Elementary School. I am a mother to one daughter and a dog. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, painting, writing, and spending time with family.
Ms. Jennifer McCloud - Guidance Counselor
It is an absolute joy to join the Buckhorn Creek Team as one of your School Counselors! With 14 years of experience in this rewarding field, I am deeply passionate about guiding and supporting our students. I hold a Bachelor's in Economics from Hollins University and a Master's from East Tennessee State University.
While my primary focus is on our amazing students, I am equally committed to fostering strong, supportive relationships with our dedicated staff, families, and community members.
My husband and I have loved our two years in the wonderful Raleigh area, having originally relocated from northeast Tennessee. We are proud parents of two grown children and just recently became grandparents—I'm "Grammie" to a sweet one-year-old grandson, with another grandchild on the way in December.
In my downtime, I love cozying up with my cats and dog, diving into a good book, and hitting the golf course. Here’s to a fantastic journey together at Buckhorn Creek!
Ms. Brittany Cruz - AIG
Greetings Buckhorn Creek Families!
My name is Brittany Cruz, and I am one of the AIG teachers here at Buckhorn Creek Elementary School. I have been teaching since 2011. I graduated from North Carolina Central University with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Duke University with a certification in Academically and Intellectually Gifted Education. I am committed to having a strong positive impact on all of our young buccaneers and helping them stay motivated and engaged in learning.
Prior to joining the Buckhorn Creek staff, I taught 10 years in Durham Public Schools and three years at a Charter school in Durham, NC.
Some of the things I enjoy are spending quality time with my family and friends, painting, and singing in the choir.
Ms. Julie Nyauma - Kindergrarten
Jambo! My name is Julie Nyauma, and I am thrilled to join the Buckhorn Creek Elementary School Crew. With a passion for education and a commitment to fostering a safe and happy learning environment, I am dedicated to helping each student reach their full potential. I hold a degree in Early Childhood Education and Counseling from Kenya Methodist University and I am currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in the same. I have over a decade of teaching experience and have been privileged to teach different age groups in elementary school. Outside the classroom, I enjoy hiking, traveling, dancing, and spending time with close friends and family. I also enjoy baking and trying out new recipes.

Meet the Teacher!
We have worked with the other Holly Springs and Fuquay Schools to align our Meet the Teachers to provide families in multiple schools. The alignment will assist families with students in multiple levels.
Our goal is to have teachers reach out to families prior to meet the teacher to welcome students to their class.
Students will be able to bring materials to their classroom during meet the teacher.
Stock the House!
We are excited to expand our global connections once again this coming school year as we welcome back Ms. Jo-Anne Robinson-Tiffin from the UK and to welcome for the first time Ms. Julie Nyuama from Kenya! We are expecting them both to arrive in early August!
As they begin planning their moves, we are looking for ways to help them get established. Like our other teachers from abroad, they will arrive with just 2 simple suitcases. Thus, we want to provide as much support as possible. If you happen to have an extra set of pots and pans, dishes, silverware, or any other kitchen items in your house that you no longer need, please drop it off to the Buckhorn Creek office. We will also be looking for any living room furniture, dressers, etc. Anything you have in your home...they will need!
We have some items from left from past teachers that have moved back to the UK, but not nearly enough to stock two apartments.
