Colts Chronicle
A Cimarron Middle School community communication
Wish Week
Wish Wish is coming up!! During Wish Week our Legend Feeder raises money to make one deserving student's wish come true. We appreciate our community participation during this time. Wish Week will take place from January 24th to January 31st.
One way to support Wish Week is by purchasing a Wish Week Shirt for your student. You can order shirts through MySchoolBucks below. The shirts are $25, and the presale closes on January 17th. All proceeds go to the Make-a-Wish foundation and count towards Cimarron's contribution to Wish Week. Be on the look out for more details about this amazing event in the next chronicle.
Winter Dance
Get ready! The winter dance is coming! The winter dance, "Iced Over," will be after school from 3:30-5:30 on Friday, January 31st. The colors are blue, white and silver. Kids may come as dressed up as they like; semi-formal or formal attire is not necessary. We will sell bracelets before school and at lunch for $5. This bracelet gets them into the dance. They need to hold onto the bracelet, as we do not replace lost bracelets. We will be selling a sandwich, chips, cookie and drink meal for $10. This dance will be the culmination of our Wish Week activities, and our profits will go to Make-a-Wish. Should you have questions, feel free to email kristi.gillespie@dcsdk12.org.
PTO Updates
Please RSVP for the celebration to help us plan enough refreshments for everyone. If you’re unable to attend, share your information to stay informed about future meetings!
Student Health Reminder
Did you know that middle school students need 9-11 hours of sleep each night to thrive academically and emotionally? Sleep is not just for rest—it's critical for focus, mood, and overall well-being. Let’s work together to ensure your child is well-rested and ready to succeed!
PLC Work At Cimarron
In a PLC, teachers are not working in isolation. They have a network of colleagues to turn to for support, advice, and fresh ideas. This collaborative environment leads to a more dynamic and responsive teaching approach, benefiting students in countless ways.
Love and Logic Parenting Tip
Emphasize the Value of Gratitude: Gratitude is closely linked to a sense of purpose. When kids learn to appreciate what they have and the people in their lives, they’re more likely to feel a sense of responsibility to give back. When gratitude becomes a habit, kids develop a mindset that values connection, contribution, and purpose.
Expose Them to Different Perspectives: Kids can find purpose by learning about different cultures, communities, and ways of thinking. Encourage your child to explore new ideas and perspectives, whether it’s through books, conversations, or experiences. By understanding different worldviews, your child can develop a broader sense of purpose. They may be inspired to take on global challenges, advocate for social justice, or find new ways to contribute to the world.
Donations
Donations Needed: Please drop off all donations at the front office. We appreciate you!
We are always looking for gift card donations of $5 gift cards to support our Be RED card Friday Drawings. Students love Fika, McDonalds, Starbucks, Chick-fil-A, Berry Blendz, Swirls, Target, and Five Below gift cards.
In an effort to show our appreciation for our outstanding staff, we are launching an initiative to provide them with tokens of gratitude throughout the year. These tokens, though small, carry a significant impact in letting our staff know that their hard work and dedication do not go unnoticed. To achieve this, we have created an Amazon Wish List filled with a variety of small thank-you gifts that our staff members would greatly appreciate. These gifts will be given out as tokens of appreciation to those who consistently go the extra mile for our students.
The Be RED store is up and running! We are employing 8th grade students to help run the store this year. It has been awesome to see their interactions with younger students and their hard work.
We are always looking for continued donations as our inventory gets pretty low; the best sellers are Air Heads, packs of gum, mini Gatorades, and lunch-sized bags of chips/ pringles/ goldfish/ etc!!
Feel free to search on this Amazon wish list but you can always go off board too! Ask your student for ideas on items they would like to see in the store! Thank you!

National Junior Honor Society
The NJHS website has all the info needed to understand the NJHS application process. Kids are invited based on a GPA of 3.73 or better. The GPA takes into account all grades - work habits and content - including Colts Community. If a student has the qualifying GPA, s/he will receive a letter by January 24th. The letter explains what NJHS is all about, asks them to apply, tells them where to find the application, gives them the deadline - 3:25pm on Friday, February 7th, and explains where to drop off the application - Mrs. Gillespie's room, E201. After all applications have been received, they are reviewed by a group of faculty members who make the selection. If a student is selected, s/he will receive a congratulations letter inviting him/her to attend the induction ceremony. According to national bylaws, a student must attend induction to be considered a member. The ceremony is March 5th at 6pm, and takes about an hour.
Sometime after induction, we will have a new member meeting explaining all things NJHS. Dues are $20 and do not start until next year. There is one mandatory after school meeting a month, 15 hours of required community service for the year, and one required committee a year. Once a student is inducted, s/he is a member through middle school. Reasons for being asked to leave would be a drop in GPA, not fulfilling community service or committee requirements, or not living up to the NJHS expectations. This is a rare occasion. If you have questions, please ask kristi.gillespie@dcsdk12.org.
