Raptor Report
Some thoughts for the starting school year
Testing season is finally over and we want to say “thank you” for all your help and support in making this testing season successful. We appreciate your flexibility in adapting to the schedule changes and bringing your students in to complete their various state assessments and/or opting your students out of those. As you may remember, we were penalized on our Unified Improvement Plan through the Colorado Department of Education last year due to low participation rates. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our students, families, and staff, it looks like we will have met the participation guidelines this year. We truly appreciate all the hard work everyone in our school community put in to help make this possible.
With summer right around the corner, we know everyone is thinking about wrapping up the 23-24 school year and finishing strong! We know that your students are really buckling down this last month to finish up all their work. Remember that our staff are here and available to help out with any last minute challenges. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if your student is needing some extra help finishing up the year. For our high school students that may need to retake some classes, we are excited to be able to offer summer school again this year. You can find out more information and register by clicking on the summer school link attached here.
Finally, we want to say “thank you” to all of our amazing families for all of your support and for giving us the opportunity to work together this year. We know that you have a choice about where to educate your children - thank you for choosing Grand River Academy! We hope you all have a wonderful summer and look forward to seeing you back here in the fall!
May Happpenings
- Prom is May 11th from 7-10 pm at the Grand Junction Events Center (formally Two Rivers Convention Center). The dance is for 9th-12th grade students. The prom is an excellent way for students to get out, meet new people, and interact with others. You can read prom rules and guidelines here. These rules and guidelines are meant to provide students with a safe and enjoyable time. Any guest that a student brings must complete the guest form. The prom is a special event for students, and we hope to see as many students participating as possible.
- Graduation is a huge celebration of the accomplishment of our graduates receiving their diplomas. Years of k-12 schooling successfully finished. We also celebrate our completers who went a different route and completed the GED. We are proud of our students! Graduation will be on May 16th, beginning at 10:00 am. Students must arrive at 9:00 am to practice and set up and get last-minute directions. Balloons will not be allowed inside the Avalon Theatre. The theatre charges the school to remove balloons from the rafters. Staff will be positioned to remind parents, guardians, family, and friends of this. Since we are a k-12 school, we all celebrate with our graduates. There will be no classes for any student on May 16th. Student should continue to work in Edmentum or k12 on this day.
- The last day for senior work is Monday, May 13th, at 8:00 am for those who wish to walk in the graduation ceremony on May 16tth.
- The 8th-grade continuation will be taking place on May 23rd at 1:00 pm. The location for the event is the GRA East campus gym, located at 600 N. 14th Street, Grand Junction. GRA East is located just South of Lincoln Park at Gunnison Avenue and 14th Street. The continuation ceremony is an excellent opportunity to celebrate our 8th graders' years in middle school and send them off with a flair to high school.
- Kindergarten graduation and 5th grade continuation will be taking place at GRA East, 600 N. 14th Street in Grand Junction. Completing kindergarten is a big milestone as they move on to 1st grade. Our 5th graders are celebrating a similar milestone as they enter middle school. Come and celebrate your student as they make this important transition. The kindergarten graduation is May 21st at 2:00 PM. The 5th grade continuation ceremony is May 22nd at 2:00 PM.
- The school-wide end-of-year picnic will occur at Lincoln Park on May 23rd from 4 pm- 6 pm. We will be in the shelter next to the Lincoln Park playground on the park's south side. The school will provide an entree. We are asking families to bring a side to share. Please join us to celebrate a great year. There will be a carnival for our younger students.
- Chromebooks need to be returned to the appropriate building between May 24th and May 31st. Students will not be able to check out a Chromebook if their school-owned Chromebook is not returned.
