From the Desk of Our Proud Principal
Good evening, Trojan Families!
This is a message from your proud principal, Mrs. Kinard, and the school leaders at Ferndale Middle School. We strongly encourage you to access the digital version of this announcement, available on our school website and social media. It contains additional important information that you and your students need to know.
End Of Grade Testing
We have exactly nine instructional days before students take their end-of-grade assessments.
Our end-of-grade Tests, a culmination of our students' hard work throughout the year, are scheduled for Monday, June 3, Tuesday, June 4, and Wednesday, June 5. We anticipate seeing positive growth and academic excellence from our students. Please ensure students are punctual on these test days.
8th Grade Dance and Promotion Ceremony
Attention 8th grade families, the 8th Grade Dance, a memorable event, will be held May 31 from 6pm - 8pm in the Ferndale Cafeteria. Tickets are on sale for $10.
Our 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony will be on Thursday, June 6. Your students have received information and will continue to receive reminders regarding the requirements and dress for the ceremony.
FMS Student Expectations
As the weather continues to warm and we move towards the end of the year, it's important to remind our students of our dress code and behavioral expectations for all students. We understand that students are eager for summer and vacation, but we still need them to adhere to the code of conduct and expectations. Your support in reinforcing these expectations at home will help us maintain a positive learning environment for all our students.
GCS Transportation
Itβs that time of year again! The window for transportation registration opens on April 8. This year, the district is committed to making sure at least 90% of students who need transportation have it on the first day of school. During the 2023/2024 school year, more than 40,000 students applied for transportation services; however, only 29,000 used these services.
KEY INFORMATION
GCS will provide transportation services for eligible students to and from their assigned stop location. The district utilizes six modes of transportation. Factors used to determine which modes will be used include, but are not limited, to program location, student ridership, staff availability, etc.
The transportation window is open from April 8 β May 31.
Families are encouraged to register as soon as possible to ensure their student has transportation on the first day of school.
Families and data managers should only register students who plan to ride.
The Transportation Department will host on-site registration events May 13-18.
Late registration could mean your student does not have transportation on the first day.
You can register by visiting www.gcsnc.com/transportation
PBIS and Class Craft Update - Mr. Russell
As we stride through the final quarter of the academic year, we are excited to continue fostering a culture of excellence and positive behavior at our school. In our ongoing efforts to recognize and reward acts of Trojan PRIDE, teachers will continue issuing ClassCraft points to scholars who exemplify these qualities. These points serve as a currency for participation in various school-wide and classroom incentives, fostering a sense of achievement and motivation among our students.
Moreover, we extend an invitation for you to join ClassCraft if you haven't already done so. By becoming a part of this platform, you can actively participate in acknowledging and rewarding your student's demonstrations of PRIDE, both within and outside of the school environment. Additionally, ClassCraft provides you with the opportunity to monitor your child's behavior, ensuring alignment with our shared values.
To assist you in getting started with ClassCraft, we have prepared a brief instructional video that outlines the process. You can access the videos by clicking on the links below at your convenience.
Thank you for your continued support,

Spring in Perfect Attendance
Be sure to make sure your student is Present on Purpose each day! We are getting closer to the end of the school year. With 14 days left of school and 9 days before EOG state testing it's important that your student does not miss any days as this is our final push for review before testing. We need your student present every day.
Did You Know?
If your student has missed 33 days thus far this school year, they are considered to be chronically absent. Please partner with us to ensure that your student has a strong finish to the school year.

Positive Thinking Equals Positive Results
Positive thinking is more than just a cheerful outlook on life; itβs a mindset that has the potential to transform the way students approach challenges and achieve their goals. In a world where stress, pressure, and uncertainty often accompany the educational journey, fostering a positive mindset can offer numerous benefits. From improved mental well-being to increased academic success, positive thinking equips students with the tools they need to thrive in their academic and personal lives.
Positive thinking fuels motivation and productivity in students. When students believe in their abilities and have a positive outlook on their potential, they become more driven to achieve their goals. Optimism provides the necessary fuel to face obstacles with determination, persist through difficulties, and maintain focus on the tasks at hand. By viewing challenges as opportunities for growth rather than insurmountable barriers, students are more likely to maintain their enthusiasm and stay committed to their academic pursuits.
Improved Academic Performance:
Positive thinking has a direct impact on academic performance. Students who cultivate a positive mindset are more likely to engage actively in their studies, embrace learning opportunities, and seek solutions to problems. They approach exams and assignments with confidence, allowing them to perform at their best. Positive thoughts also enhance memory and cognitive abilities, as an optimistic mindset promotes a more open and receptive state of mind, making it easier for students to grasp and retain information.
