Renton High School
Week of April 29, 2024
Message from the Principal
Hello RedHawkS families. For those whom I have not met, my name is Rashaad Powell, and I have the privilege of serving as an assistant principal at Thee Renton High School! In case you are unaware, Dr. San Martin is currently on leave, and is scheduled to return June 1, 2024. In Dr. San Martin’s absence, I will provide leadership in her place, with the support of Assistant Principal, Ms. Aleta Konkol.
I would like to provide an update regarding a matter you may or may not be aware of. Last week, a student experienced a medical emergency on – campus in which staff and students assisted with providing medical care until emergency medical services arrived. The student is currently recovering in the hospital. Our continued positive thoughts go out to the student and family. I would like to acknowledge and thank our staff and students who were involved in providing support to and care for the student. Their awareness, knowledge, and rapid action provided support needed for the student’s well – being.
On a different note, many families recently received an automated communication titled, “Assigned Discipline.” This is an autogenerated notification from Skyward notifying families of unexcused absences their student has received. We are updating our system and you may receive notifications that are back logged. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused and thank you for your understanding.
In closing, I look forward to our continued partnership in our students’ academic journey. Please review the information below, have a great week, and Go REDHAWKS!!!

And Maybe You Were There......
This year’s RHS play, “The Play That Goes Wrong,” was a murder mystery that follows an inept and accident-prone Drama Society as they attempt to produce a murder mystery. Things fell apart all too quickly in this play within a play as props disappeared, actors went missing, and the set collapsed; all setting the stage for laughter and chaos. If you missed it, RHS built their own set, rehearsed during spring break, and included some of the most complex play filled crazy mishaps, intense physical comedy and multitude of props being misused in years. Hats off to Ms. Khelghatian and her students. This truly was a play we will remember for a very long time.

College Acceptance Season is in Full Swing!
We recommend that you wait until you get your financial aid award letters from ALL the colleges you are considering before deciding. You want to compare college costs before you make any financial decisions. Some colleges will require you to pay a NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT to reserve your space. If you accept and pay the deposit, you will not get your money back if you end up changing your mind later. You have until June 1st, 2024, to decide, so do not rush. If you have questions, please contact Ms. Cindy or Ms. Currie in the College and Career Center.
If you plan to apply to college and have not filled out the FAFSA/WASFA yet, please get that done. If you need support, contact Ms. Cindy or Ms. Currie in the College and Career Center.
