From Your Pastors
Dear Zion family –
Please join us this Wednesday, April 2 at 9 am, following our morning school chapel, for a groundbreaking service on Zion’s new fieldhouse! This project will help expand our athletics program and offer a place for concessions when we host games. This project is thanks to some generous donors who love our school. But we still need your help! If you’d like to help complete the fieldhouse project, you can write a check to Zion with “Fieldhouse” in the memo portion, or you can donate electronically by clicking here.
This Sunday, we will hold a brief special voters’ meeting at 9:15 am in the sanctuary. This meeting will mark an exciting moment in our ministry as we vote on extending a call to Suzan Winkelman to be our new principal. Suzan has been serving faithfully as our interim principal, and we can’t wait to see how God’s Spirit guides us in this process.
In worship, we’ll continue our series called “Versus.” We all have battles we fight. Sometimes, it’s a battle versus fatigue. Other times, it’s a battle versus addiction. Sometimes, it’s even a battle versus God. In this series, we’re looking at some of these battles. This Sunday, we’ll talk about how we can do battle with those who we perceive as being different from us. We’ll look at a story from Acts 15:1-2, 6-11:
Certain people came down from Judea to Antioch and were teaching the believers: “Unless you are circumcised, according to the custom taught by Moses, you cannot be saved.” This brought Paul and Barnabas into sharp dispute and debate with them. So Paul and Barnabas were appointed, along with some other believers, to go up to Jerusalem to see the apostles and elders about this question. The apostles and elders met to consider this question. After much discussion, Peter got up and addressed them: “Brothers, you know that some time ago God made a choice among you that the Gentiles might hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe. God, who knows the heart, showed that He accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as He did to us. He did not discriminate between us and them, for He purified their hearts by faith. Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of Gentiles a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors have been able to bear? No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are.”
In Acts 15, a group of Jewish Christians tell a group of Gentile Christians they need to have surgery to be saved. The surgery of circumcision was a foundational mark of Jewish identity. But do Gentiles need to undergo this surgery, too? Or can Gentiles be different from Jews? We’ll consider this question this Sunday in worship. We worship at 8 am in our beautiful historic sanctuary, at 10:45 am in our wonderful worship center, or online at zionwalburg.org.
Your pastors love you!
– Pastor Zach, Pastor Kevin & Pastor Kyle

"New Learning Path fhr LHM Learn Addresses Anxiety"
Has anxiety been getting the best of you lately - or maybe for quite a while now? A new learning path called "Journey Through Anxiety", composed of 2 parts from LHM LEARN, is now available. Based on the Project Connect booklet of the same title by AmyRuth Bartlett, these courses offer insights in defining anxiety and help in moving through it. Anxiety is a real problem in the world today, Created in God's image, we are made to relate and create, to be in intimate relationships with God and each other. But anxiety (relentless worries, perceived threats, panic attacks, irrational fears) disrupts this harmony, replacing it instead with shame, self-doubt, and avoidance. It's a vicious cycle that can continue as long as we allow it to - but we don't have to allow it to.
This is where "Journey Through Anxiety" can help. Chris Macky, LHM's content development manager has stated "These courses are designed with rigorous, scientific foundations, but presented in a way that is completely understandable, and even with a bit of fun."
Course exercises prompt users to explore their anxieties and to consider creative approaches for navigating through them.
You can find more about LHM LEARN's course offerings by going to lhm.org/learn. There you will see these courses plus several others. They are categorized under the headings of "Christian Foundations", "Cultural Concepts", "Everyday Insights", "Outreach Essentials", and "Spiritual Reflections."
