The Literacy Link
FES Reads kicked off last month. We had 39 students who met the requirements for 15 nights of home-reading. They were awarded a token for the book vending machine! December Reading sheets are being sent home this week!!!!! Please return them December 19th, so incentives can go home before the holiday break begins. Remember that reading sheets must be turned in by the due date and any late submissions will not be honored. Please fill in all of the spots, as you need all 15 with signatures to receive the incentive. Keep Reading...Remember, a Falcon who READS is a Falcon who SUCCEEDS!
Our Falcons continue to make gains in Tier 2 Reading Interventions.
26 students (Oct/Nov) decreased to 20 students learning Letter Names/Sounds.
49 students (Oct/Nov) decreased to 37 students learning VC/CVC words.
97 students (Oct/Nov) INCREASED to 99 who are Fluently and Accurately reading independently.
The Calculation Station
Congratulations to out 12 Mathletes who have earned all of their dog-tags for mastering their multiplication facts! Over the winter break, here are some fun and engaging ways families can explore math together:
Winter Fluency Fun:
Using plain white paper, cut out ten circles and a small hat. Write the numbers 0-9 with a crayon or marker on each circle. Stack up two (or three) circles to make a snowman. Add (or multiply) the numbers together and write the answer on the snowman's hat lightly with a pencil. Erase and start again.
*Younger students would also benefit from placing the numbers in order (least to greatest and greatest to least).
Winter Geometry Hunt:
Go on a geometry shape hunt around your house. Look for all the circles, triangles, and rectangles you can find. Discuss the shapes and their properties (angles, sides). Have students draw winter scenes using the shapes they saw on your hunt.
Math Night
Math Night a Big Success at FES!
FES recently hosted a well-attended Math Night, bringing families together for an evening of fun and learning. Participants were provided with dice and cards and introduced to engaging math games designed to reinforce important skills like addition, multiplication, and problem-solving. The event fostered a love for math and encouraged families to explore hands-on ways to support learning at home. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this exciting night of educational fun!
Attendance
117 students who earned perfect attendance for the month of November took part in a Thankful Dance & Ice-Cream Party! Remember, students get to take part if they miss no days, and do not arrive late, or leave early.
Community Schools
Family Engagement
We had a fun and engaging American Education Week! Students were able to dress up for a future career, listen to community partners read, and spend time with their families during visitation day. Our 5th graders took part in a wiffle-ball game with the Salisbury University Baseball Team to promote college and the importance of academics in becoming a student athlete.
Caroline Better Together
Are you a renter or know renters? Do you or those you know have questions about tenant rights? Increasing rents, availability of rentals and other factors are impacting current and prospective renters. In 2024 several new Maryland laws regarding tenants rights went into effect. Shore Legal Access, Minary’s Dream Alliance and Caroline Better Together’s Housing Stability Workgroup are providing an in-person education session to share information for tenants about their legal rights and responsibilities and how to access support for housing related legal issues.

Choptank Community Health
We join our Choptank Health partners in wishing you and your family a safe and healthy holiday season and new year. To help keep you and your family as healthy as you can be, our Choptank Health partners are providing these three tips for staying well over the holidays:
1. Wash Your Hands – You can help your children learn the importance of hand-washing by
making it a family activity. Good hand
hygiene is one of the most effective
ways to stop the spread of infection!
Follow these five steps every time:
1. Wet your hands with clean,
running water (warm or cold), turn
off the tap, and apply soap.
2. Lather your hands by rubbing
them together with the soap.
Lather the backs of your hands,
between your fingers, and under
your nails.
3. Scrub your hands for at least 20
seconds. Need a timer? Hum
the “Happy Birthday” song
from beginning to end twice.
4. Rinse your hands well under
clean, running water.
5. Dry your hands using a clean
towel or an air dryer.
2. If you have respiratory symptoms (cough, congestion, sneezing, sore throat, etc.) please
consider testing yourself for COVID and wearing a mask. Masks help protect us from
illnesses that are spread through respiratory droplets! Click on this link to sign up for your
free tests: https://www.covid.gov/tests.
3. Get your Flu Shot and updated COVID-19 vaccine, with both usually given at the same time.
You can learn more by reaching out to your health care or school-based healthcare provider or
finding locations for vaccines near you at www.vaccines.gov.
