WLWV Community Update
June 14, 2023
Message from Superintendent Dr. Kathy Ludwig
Dear WLWV Community,
As another school year wraps up, I wish to share my enormous gratitude to our students, parent-guardians, volunteers, community partners, and district staff for contributing to a tremendously successful school year.
Our district theme this year was “Belief and Belonging”. Research shows that when individuals build their self-efficacy (belief in their capability) and feel a genuine sense of belonging, that they grow intellectually and thrive personally.
“Belief and Belonging” were clearly evident this year. Time and again our students, staff, families, and community members showed up to support one another in powerful ways. Some examples that come to mind include:
School and classroom activities and assemblies that demonstrated messages of belonging (“all are welcome here”) and actions of belief (“I know you can do it.”);
Parent organizations that hosted events for families to feel included and proud of their culture and heritage;
Community partners who donated resources and services through our Family Empowerment Center;
Award-winning author, Kwame Alexander, who provided the keynote address at our Annual Community Equity Summit and then met with our middle school students to empower their voice through writing;
Celebrations of state championships, international science fair and mock trial awards, music and drama productions, art and robotics accolades, student-led campaigns and initiatives, and so much more, showcased our students’ creativity and intellect, while demonstrating our communities’ support and belief.
As we finish strong, we generate hope and excitement for what’s to come next year. We are excited to move Athey Creek Middle School into its new location this summer. And we are excited to open Riverside High School, as a smaller, International Baccalaureate school. We look forward to the expansion of CTE pathways in our middle and high schools; to thoughtfully continue our K-5 Literacy Renewal Process; and to implement new programs that keep our district progressive, relevant, and so exceptional.
Please enjoy the summer weeks of rest and relaxation. We look forward to another great year of learning together in the fall.
Sincerely,
Kathy Ludwig, Superintendent
Congratulations to the West Linn High School and Wilsonville High School Class of 2023!
Honor A Student. Create A Memorial. Participate in a WLWV Performing Arts Center Seat Program.
The West Linn Heritage Seat and Wilsonville Legacy Seat programs in association with
WLWV Music and Arts Partners (MAP) were created to raise money for the performing arts
centers. These funds are used to keep the facility in a state-of-the-art condition by paying for
specialty items such as lighting, sound equipment and furnishings.
Seat Sponsorship: Put your name, group name or the name of anyone you wish to honor on a
seat in the auditorium. Seats will be named with a brass plate on the armrest for the life of the
seat.
More information can be found on the MAP website:

ParentSquare Coming in 2023-24!
The West Linn-Wilsonville School District is excited to share that our school district will be moving to a new communication platform called ParentSquare starting in 2023-24. ParentSquare will consolidate existing communication systems while providing better school engagement and access to information for families.
ParentSquare will provide the following advantages for WLWV families:
Allows for schools to send and receive school and class information.
Messaging automatically translates to the parent-guardian’s preferred language, allowing for meaningful one-way and two-way electronic conversations.
Flexibility for parent-guardians in how you receive information (email, text message, or through the free ParentSquare app) as well as when you receive information (instantaneous or digest).
All messaging is archived within ParentSquare so that you can easily review past information.
Our ListServ system will be consolidated into ParentSquare so that community members without students in our schools can continue to stay connected through school newsletters and broad school/district announcements.
Be on the lookout for a ParentSquare invite later this summer to register your account. Parent-guardians will receive information from their school regardless if they register their account or not, but registering will allow for parent-guardians to engage in two-way communication with their school as well as customize how and when they receive school updates. Parent-guardians are invited to learn more about ParentSquare by visiting this district webpage.

Riverside High School Enrollment Still Open
Incoming 9th grade and 10th grade students can still choose to attend Riverside High School at any time prior to the start of the 2023-24 school year, even if they've already forecasted for classes at another district high school. Any current 8th and 9th grade student who lives in or is currently enrolled in the West Linn-Wilsonville School District is eligible to enroll at Riverside for next school year.
Students can still enroll through the inter-district transfer process found on the district website. The inter-district transfer process is quick and easy for families.
Riverside will open as a small comprehensive high school with International Baccalaureate, three new Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways, and co-curricular activities including select athletics. Interested students can check out the curriculum guide, including courses that will be offered next year, by visiting the Riverside High School website.
