Friday was an INCREDIBLE day. In the morning we had our Staff vs. Student basketball game. Special thanks to Mr. Williams for coordinating the days activities. It was so much fun to have our staff and student compete together. Ultimately, the students took the win--- but I believe the staff let them win :-) See some photos from that event below.

Later that evening, we hosted the Mr/Ms. SSS Pageant. Many years ago, the Ms. SSS Pageant was a special part of the SSS culture.. This was a tradition deeply rooted in our school community that had not been done in many years. We were thrilled to have such wonderful contestants, amazingly talented student performers, and a host of dedicated volunteers. We look forward to continuing this annual tradition and already ready to invite you to the next year's pageant! Congratulations to our Ms. SSS! Ms. Cinthia Cepin did fantastic in each category of personal interview, casual wear, talent, formal wear, and answering her on-stage question! Well done to each of our participants: Cameron Bill, Denasia Dixon, Lisa Hill, Savannah Allen, & Teagan Farrell. Special thanks to Mrs. Cindy Russell and her team of volunteers and Hailey Stephens for taking this event on as her Cas Project. Well done.

Thursday we inducted lots of students into our Spartan chapters of National Honor Society, Mu Theta, and Rho Kappa. It was a joy to see so much excellence celebrated from our students in both service and academic achievement.

The SSS Band is hosting our annual Spring Showcase on Monday, March 25th at 6:30 pm in the SSS gym. Admission is $5. The showcase will feature performances from our Jazz Band, Winter Guard, and Spartan Thunder. This is your last chance to see this year’s winter guard show, and is our [public] debut of jazz band for this year. Help us spread the word and join us on Monday, March 25th to support all of these amazing students!

SENIORS: Grab this opportunity! Caterpillar Apprenticeship

The Caterpillar Apprenticeship Program is approximately a three-year program where apprentices will work part-time at Caterpillar and take classes part-time at Johnston Community College. During the program, apprentices will have job rotations in bothe Operations as a Product Assembler and in Logistics as a Warehouse Associates.

This is a paid apprenticeship! Successful candidates who complete the Caterpillar Apprenticeship Program will receive:

• Associate Degree from JCC in Applied Engineering

• Journeyman status in a specific trade

• Full-time Caterpillar position

Congratulations to Noemi Luna and Eli Spottswood for being selected to the 2024 UNCP Honors Band. These students rehearsed all day and performed in the concert on Saturday night. Way to go, Spartans! We are so proud of your hard work and dedication.

On March 15th the IB Visual Art Seniors held their exhibition that showcased their artworks from the last two years. Noelle, Adriana, Kai and Yudid all did an amazing job!

Congratulations to our concert band and symphonic band on a phenomenal concert on Tuesday night. Both groups sounded amazing and did a great job showcasing all the hard work they have been doing this semester. If you didn’t get the chance to come watch, our spring concert will be on Tuesday, May 21st - mark your calendars!

Our coaching staff had a wonderful week at various professional learning opportunities. Coach Crosby and Coach Bently are bringing back incredible information about weight lifting and our new football staff got to hear from the amazing Tony Dungy about coaching, football, and how to positively impact young people.

One of the ways that we have tried to make this year special for our students is to bring back traditional aspects of high school. A Varsity Letterman's Jacket is one of those special things that make high school special. UNC Health Johnston is thrilled to present a transformative week-long camp for students eager to explore various hospital departments. This immersive Camp Med experience will allow participants to learn more about health care careers by shadowing hospital teammates in a number of different areas through our health system in Smithfield and Clayton. By the week's end, participants will attain their Basic Life Support certification and gain profound insights into the intricacies of hospital operations.

Summer opportunity for rising 9-12 young women!

North Carolina Emergency Management invites young women in grades 9-12 to explore careers in emergency management and public safety this summer. The workshop will take place from August 5-9, 2024 and will be hosted at the NC State Emergency Operations Center in Raleigh. NCEM intends to select up to 24 students to participate in the 2024 program.

Summer internship opportunity for rising Juniors, Seniors and Class of 2024 graduates!

Caterpillar in Clayton is accepting applications for STEM Student Trainees during Summer 2024. Students will work 40 hours per week. Successful applicants will have some experience in the STEM field.

Other requirements include:

*Must Be 16 years of age by start of program

*Must have and maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA

*Must have reliable transportation

*Must be able to work 40 hours per week during the 8–10-week summer program

Summer opportunity for rising Latinx/Hispanic 11th & 12th graders!

UNCG CHANCE is a 4-day residential summer program for Latinx/Hispanic rising high school juniors and seniors. During their time on campus, students will participate in college preparation and leadership skills development. CHANCE 2024 is July 17th- July 20th on the campus of UNC-Greensboro.

If a student desires to have a Chromebook checked out, the parent or guardian must complete the Technology Agreement Form found on the second slide of the school's website or linked here. Students may also opt to bring in their own personal device for use in the classroom. Students are responsible for their own devices and for any devices that may be checked out to them upon parent/guardian request. Students may not have more than one device checked out to them and must resolve any fees associated with their account prior to a device being issued to them.

The NCVPS EDVANTAGE Tutoring Program will be available to individual middle school and high school students nightly from 4 PM to 7:30 PM, Monday-Thursday.
