Important Dates

Please note the following important dates in March:


  • Tuesday, March 4: 8th grade visit to LAHS
  • Tuesday, March 11: Thula Sizwe school-wide assembly
  • Wednesday, March 12: Thula Sizwe performance with choir @ LAHS (7:00 PM; workshop @ 5:00 PM for choir members)
  • Tuesday, March 25: ExtravaBANDza concert (concert begins @ 7:00 PM; report time for students in band is 6:45 PM)
  • Thursday, March 27: End of 3rd marking period
  • Friday, March 28: No school for students - Teacher in-service

Camp Cadet Presentation

Trooper Barrett of the Pennsylvania State Police recently visited DHEMS to provide students with information on Camp Cadet. The meeting was well attended with many students sitting in to learn more about the week-long camp that will take place in June. If your child is interested in attending Camp Cadet, they can apply at https://svlecc.com. Students can talk to Mr. Mowrey, Mrs. Ulrich, or Officer Shipman for more information.

Classroom Chronicles

BCIT Puts Leadership Skills to the Test

BCIT students recently took their Small Group Leadership skills beyond the classroom and into the hallways! Randomly assigned to teams, students worked together to complete interactive, game-like activities that challenged their critical thinking and teamwork abilities. Students are learning about how to lead and manage other people in preparation for high school and beyond! Each group had to observe, strategize, and support one another to successfully complete their tasks. Aside from note-taking and classroom discussions, students gained hands-on experience while strengthening their leadership skills, and learning the value of collaboration with different peers.

Camp Stools in Technology Education

Mr. Morgan's 7th grade Technology Educations classes have entered the woodshop! Students have begun working on campstools, a Tech Ed tradition. Just in time for warmer weather and sitting around a campfire!

7th Grade Advisory Challenge

Students created newspaper towers in Mrs. Walter's 7th grade advisory class. Students had to work with others in their groups to create the tallest tower using limited resources. This task pulls together many important skills, including cooperation and problem solving.

February Students of the Month

Congratulations to our February students of the month. These students are selected by the faculty for consistently following school expectations of being Respectful, Accountable, Prepared and Safe.

PSSA Testing Reminder

PSSA testing is right around the corner! Dates for testing are as follows:


  • April 23 - April 25: ELA testing
  • April 28 - April 29: Mathematics testing
  • April 30 - May 1: Science testing (8th grade only)


As a reminder, educational travel requests cannot be permitted during state testing windows. Please ensure educational travel is planned outside of state testing windows.

RAPS Valentine's Day Breakfast

Some of our Dragon RAPS winners from February earned a Valentine's breakfast served by our 7th grade team. The students earned this opportunity through meeting and exceeding our school-wide expectations of being Respectful, Accountable, Prepared, and Safe. Each winner was able to bring one guest, and students seemed to genuinely enjoy being served by their teachers!

Transitions of PA Visits 8th Grade Classes

Transitions of PA recently presented to 8th grade students to raise awareness and educate young people about what sexual harassment is, how to recognize it, and why it is harmful. The presentation focused on understanding boundaries, respect, and consent, while emphasizing that everyone deserves to feel safe and respected. Students were encouraged to speak up should they witness or experience harassment, and students were made aware that there are resources and support available to them. The goal of the presentation was to create a safe, inclusive environment where students understand the importance of treating others with dignity and respect.

Weis4School

DHEMS is participating in the Weis4School program, where you can earn money for DHEMS simply by linking your club card to the middle school. Please click here and follow the steps to link your club card to DHEMS. Please note: we are listed as D H Eichhorn Middle School (we will not show up if you search Donald...).
