This week is King Spirit Week
Count Day
Every October, schools and school districts participate in something called the "October Count" during which school districts count student attendance to be certified for school funding purposes. This is a very important date for us, as we determine the funding our school receives from the state based on how many students we enroll.
Please know this date is October 1, and we ask that you please make every effort to have your students in school for the entire day during this time. If you have any questions about the October count, please reach out to us.
King Field Day is this Friday!
King Elementary's Field Day is Friday October 4th from 8:15 am to 11:10 am for grades 1st-5th.
Kindergarteners have Field Day from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm
We hope for great weather, but your child needs to be prepared for whatever the weather brings that day.
Things that your child will need to have include safe shoes designed for running in, appropriate clothes for Colorado's Fall weather, sunscreen, and a water bottle that can be refilled.
Parents are invited to watch and play in the day's activities (Please leave your dogs and pets at home for this event).
If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Poole at 719-328-6025 or James.Poole@d11.org
Popcorn Friday- October 4th
Help us reach our school wide attendance goal!
We're climbing towards reaching our goal of 95% attendance. Our current goal is to reach 92% . When we have 92% attendance for 4 days in a row we will have a whole school mystery reward (examples: extra recess, spirit days, popsicle parties, etc). Our goal is 95% because we understand that there will be absences for illness and emergencies. We are hoping that outside of illnesses and emergencies all students will be attendance.
King Pride
Our King Pride Group #2 Worked on team building activities. 5th graders have the opportunity to apply to be in King Pride. We have so much interest that we divide them into two groups. King Pride Groups will be working on Random Acts of Kindness projects for the school, modeling positive behaviors with King students and mentoring younger students at school during the year.
Cross Country
King Lions had their last D11 Cross Country meet of the season. We are so proud of the growth our King students have achieved. It’s been a great season! We want to say a BIG thank you to Mrs. Raboin and Mrs. Cross for coaching our cross country team!
Updated STUDENT HANDBOOK: CONDUCT, ATTENDANCE AND DISCIPLINE CODE
D11 has updated the Student Handbook. Go to the link below and scroll past the board policies to access the updated Student Handbook. We added a link to the bottom of Lion Tracks so that you can access this important information whenever you have a question.
Traffic Safety/crosswalk reminder
Our parking lot is a busy place, especially during drop-off and pick-up times. Ensuring the safety of everyone who enters and exits our school grounds is a shared responsibility, and we need your help to maintain a safe environment for our students. Here are some key guidelines and reminders:
Adhere to Speed Limits: Please drive slowly and cautiously when entering and leaving the parking lot. The speed limit within our lot is 5 mph. This helps ensure that drivers have ample time to react to unexpected movements from pedestrians and other vehicles.
Use Designated Areas: Always park in designated parking spaces and avoid parking in areas marked for staff or emergency vehicles. This helps keep traffic flowing smoothly and provides clear access for emergency responders if needed. Reminder, please do not park where the daycare buses park or the area directly outside of the kitchen.
Follow Traffic Patterns: Observe and follow the traffic flow patterns established in the parking lot. This includes respecting one-way signs and directional arrows. Adhering to these patterns minimizes confusion and reduces the risk of accidents.
Supervise Children: Always hold your child's hand and supervise them closely as they walk to and from your vehicle. Remind them to use crosswalks and avoid running or playing in the parking lot.
Do Not Block Traffic: When waiting in your vehicle, please avoid blocking lanes or the flow of traffic. If you need to wait, use designated waiting areas if available or park in a designated space.
Respect Crossing Guards: Our crossing guards are there to help ensure the safety of your children. Please follow their directions and give them the space they need to do their job effectively.
Report Concerns: If you notice any safety hazards or have concerns about parking lot conditions, please report them to the school office so that we can address them promptly.
By following these guidelines, we can all contribute to a safer and more efficient environment for everyone. We appreciate your cooperation and support in helping us create a safe school experience for our students.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter. If you have any questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Absences and Tardies

Attendance
Behavior
Cell Phones
We want all students to maintain an attendance rate above 90%. To excuse your student, please call 719-328-6000.
To increase learning time we want all students in the classroom ready to learn at the 7:50 bell. Students who enter King after the 7:50 bell are tardy and will need to have a tardy pass from the office to enter the classroom. Thank you for helping us get started on time each morning!
Pre Arranged Absence Form
If your student is going to be out of town for an extended absence, please make sure to fill out the Pre-Arranged Absence Form a week in advance if possible. Parents please request missing work form classroom teachers.
Health Room Needs
Our Health room could use some clothing donations. Specifically, we could really use some size 10-14 pants, shirts, and jackets and boys K-1 clothes.
Crossing Guards
School Lunch Dietary Modifications
We can not make special meals for students with dietary preferences for religious, ethical, or cultural reasons, or general health concerns. However, if a student has a dietary restriction that needs to be accommodated for medical reasons, such as a food allergy, celiac disease, or a sensitivity that impacts the student in a way that would cause negative symptoms (ex: lactose intolerance that causes GI distress), we are able to make special meals for them. In order to make special meals, we would need to have the following form completed by the student’s parent and physician and returned to our department. https://www.d11.org/fs/resource-manager/view/0116ea1d-900c-4fb5-83a3-749d83ac2a12 .

Learn about events and opportunities across the district and be future ready.
- Peachjar
- Peachjar is a digital bulletin board that unites schools, families, and the community. It eliminates the need for paper flyers and ensures that information about community programs and events gets home.
- All parents or guardians with an email address on file with the District will automatically be registered to receive digital flyers from their school through peachjar. Community-based organizations submit flyers for approval, and once approved, parents or guardians can access them anytime, anywhere, and share them with family or friends.
- The District generally posts new flyers on Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Parents may unsubscribe via a link on the digital flyers if they wish.
Thank you for taking the time to make sure you are connected with us. Please reach out to our front office 719-328-6000 if you have any questions or concerns.
