As you may be aware, our school and all schools in Red Deer Catholic use an online reporting platform called Schoology to report and comment on student progress in kindergarten to grade 4. All reporting of student progress is done "live" in this program, and as such, parents do not receive paper report cards throughout the year. Live reporting has been common practice in Red Deer Catholic Schools for the last several years.

This past week, parents received an email from homeroom teachers with directions on how to log into Schoology. Please take the time to follow the instructions in this letter to ensure you have access to important information about your child's progress.

Teachers use timely and targeted assessments (indicators and comments) based on the curriculum outcomes. Teachers will be updating Schoology monthly. We encourage you to log into Schoology and if you are needing any support in this area, please contact your child's teacher.

We are excited to announce that we have changed our student recognition for this school year to "What Would Jesus Do" Awards. The change was made based on valuable feedback from both staff and students. Student excitement last year from receiving a "WWJD" ticket was overwhelming and they felt a sense of accomplishment and pride. This change aims to make our awards more personal and meaningful by recognizing specific events where students have shown what Jesus would do.

Our first award ceremony will be held on October 15th at 9:00 am for grades 1 & 2. The grade 3 & 4 ceremony will take place on October 17th at 9:00am. PreKindergarten and Kindergarten classes are in the process of finalizing their award dates based on their calendars. Stay tuned!

All the awards will take place in the Gathering Area.

For safety reasons, our bus drivers cannot transport items related to extracurricular activities such as sports equipment, musical instruments, and large projects on school buses. Students attempting to bring these items on the bus will be denied service and sent home with the item. This also includes items like skateboards, badminton rackets, and similar objects.

Please complete the "2024-2025 School Mass Informed Consent Form". To do this, log into PowerSchool, scroll to the bottom of the page, and click on "School Fees & Forms" on the left. Select your child and then click on the consent form listed below. If you require assistance logging into PowerSchool, please contact the school directly.

With the beautiful fall weather, we have noticed that some families are embracing the opportunity to walk their pets to and from school. As we strive to maintain a safe environment for all our students, we kindly ask for your cooperation regarding pets on school grounds during drop-off and pick-up times.

While we understand the joy and companionship pets bring to families, we must prioritize the safety of our children. If you choose to bring your pets, please ensure they are kept under your control on a leash and are off the playground behind the fence. Additionally, we kindly request that you discourage children from petting the animals, as this presents a liability concern for the pet owner. Your cooperation in adhering to these guidelines will greatly contribute to the well-being of our students. Thank you for your understanding and support in keeping our school community safe.

With cooler weather arriving please ensure your children are dressed appropriately. In the event of light rain, they will still be going outside for recess. Layering their clothing can help keep them warm and comfortable. Waterproof jackets and appropriate footwear are also key for staying dry and enjoying outdoor activities.

Mark your calendars for our next TWO meetings: October 28th @ 5:30PM is our General Meeting and immediately following at approximately 6:45PM is our Budget meeting. Everyone is welcome to attend. If you are a parent or guardian of a kiddo at OLR your opinions and ideas matter. You also have a vote!

What is Bowls for Bellies?

Bowls for Bellies is a soup cook off in support of the Mustard Seed’s school lunch program in which local chefs will be competing for the “Bowly Grail” trophy and title of best soup in the city!
