KH NEWS
Week of Monday, November 4th
Message from the Principal
What a fun-filled Halloween week we had! A big thank you to all the Room Parents and Teachers who made it so memorable for our students. Follow us on Facebook to view pictures!
It's hard to believe November is here and the holidays are approaching. If you know of any families facing extreme hardship this season, please email me.
Just a heads up, daylight saving time ends on Sunday, November 3rd, so we "fall back" one hour for an extra hour of sleep!
With the weather changing, please ensure your child brings appropriate cold weather gear for daily recess. All students are required to go outside unless they have a doctor's note. See our district-wide outdoor recess procedures below. If your child needs a winter jacket, hat, or gloves, don't hesitate to email me.
We're always here to support your family. Reach out with any questions or feedback. Have a wonderful weekend, and remember there's no school on Tuesday, November 5th!
Warmly,
Michelle LaCamera
Kimball Hill Principal
Cold Weather Guidelines
Cold weather: Indoor recess is determined based on the following guidelines:
If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is below 0°F, all students will remain inside for the entire lunch hour.
If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is between 0°-10°F, the preferred procedure is a rotation of 20 minutes for lunch, a 20-minute outdoor recess, and a 20-minute indoor recess. However, at the principal's discretion, students may be kept inside for the entire lunch hour.
If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is above 10°F, students will have regular outdoor recess.

Of course, if you prefer to only share a picture, that's perfectly welcome and deeply appreciated! You can drop the picture into this Veterans Day photos folder or email it to leachm@ccsd15.net. All pictures must be submitted no later than November 4th.
High Five Friday
As a reminder, on Friday, November 8th, our district will once again be hosting "High Five Fridays," a community initiative where first responders will greet students outside of the school as they arrive. Our FD will be here out back and out front to welcome our students with enthusiasm! They generously agreed to participate at every school in the district. We're thrilled to invite all parents to stop by the outside main entrance upon drop off and kick off the day on a positive note.
World Kindness Day
World Kindness Day is coming up on November 13th. Let's make this a special day to not only celebrate kindness but also to inspire our children to incorporate it into their daily lives. Teachers will share a coloring sheet with ideas to show kindness within the community.
Here are 5 simple ways you can model kindness for your children:
- Spread Positivity: Send a heartwarming text or message to a friend or family member.
- Pay It Forward: Let someone merge into traffic with a friendly wave and smile.
- Prioritize Joy: Schedule intentional moments of kindness, laughter, and delight into your day.
- Step Outside Your Comfort Zone: Do something unexpected to brighten someone's day.
- Share the Love: Compliment a coworker, friend, or family member.
A Book Recommendation: The Invisible Boy by Trudy Ludwig is a wonderful book that shows how small acts of kindness can have a big impact.
By modeling kindness, we can inspire our children to become compassionate and caring individuals. Let's work together to create a kinder world, one act of kindness at a time.
